Evaluation
Overall this project was very difficult but the end products made it feel rewarding and beneficial. I enjoyed making the 30 second animation and walk cycle the most, as it was great practice for 2D animation and i’m overall happy with the outcome.
The bouncy ball animation was short but fun to make. I was able to get experience with timing of frames which overall helped me in the rest of the exercises. The second ball animation also went well as I was able to incorporate different and interesting aspects and properties to the ball. I was quickly able to learn how to use dragon frame and animate the cut out. It turned out really well as I was able get create the movements effectively and use light to make it stand out and make moments have a larger impact. 2D stop motion was definitely the easiest type of animation to create but was still high quality and effective.
Creating the physical model went well as my model was sturdy, flexible and fairly matched the style I was trying to achieve. I should have weighted the shoes more, so that it could stand easier on its own in different positions. The materials used for the clothing, especially the boots could have been made neater and fit the model more accurately but overall i’m happy with how it turned out and how it moved in practice.
Traditional 2D animation is what I want to focus on in the future and so despite being incredibly difficult, i’m happy with the outcome of the music based animation. I was able to complete the walk cycle before doing the main animation and so I had some practice beforehand. Despite being my first animation in the course, the walk cycle turned out pretty well. However I feel as if I had used a simpler character, I would have spent more time refining the movement and had a smoother result. I grossly underestimated how long creating a 30 second animation would take. I looped one animation to save time, but still had to draw new unique frames for the majority of the animation. I spent an exorbitant amount of time drawing and redrawing rough tests for specific animations and masking each frame in after effects was also a huge time commitment. Next time i will manage this aspect better so that I have more time to work on the details and all other aspects. I do feel as I improved a lot as I worked and some parts are better the others.
In conclusion, i’m content with the work I've produced and want to make higher quality work in the future. I've gained a lot of practical expression and knowledge throughout this module. I know know what I need to improve and what to focus on practising in the meantime.
