The concept of fanfiction will always be so crazy because people can just be out here writing the most banging pieces of literature ever and the general public will never even hear of it simply because it's enclosed within a niche audience (fandoms). Likeeeeee i remember when I was 13 reading several of the most gut-wrenching stories ever with the most beautiful prose but people outside EXO's (the kpop group) fandom would probably never even give the titles a second glance. We're all sitting on a goldmine of undiscovered beauty, just a few taps away, but we won't get to know the pleasure of consuming it all because we haven't entered certain fandoms yet. That's just so insane to think about.

STORY UPDATE!!!!!
Hi everyone!
For those who missed my Tumblr update, I had a tough week due to a health crisis, hence the delayed update on this fic. But the good news is, I'm already done writing the whole thing! I'm rewriting and tweaking now, so expect faster updates starting today. I'm so excited to be back because I had quite a scare last week but I'm now fully recovered and even better news: I have a new Pro Pen arriving which means I can make art on my Cintiq tab again! Follow me if you're interested in that.
Thank you so much for waiting patiently. I've also started drafting a plotline for a new story but I'm curious, do you still want more ZuToph? Let me hear your opinions!

Probably my most favorite comment to date. I already love it when readers look beyond the ship in the story and appreciate the writing. But I especially love it even more when they pick up on the subtext. A political alliance/arranged marriage themed story sounds like another romance-centric plot. But there's plenty of issues in there too.
This was never a happy story to begin with. It's horrifying in Toph's perspective for her fate to be completely out of her control and decided by men to the point of only being able to hope that her husband would AT LEAST be a friend. Can you imagine being tethered to a person and a home that doesn't hold any affection for you? Not having the choice to run away IF Zuko turned out to be a monster? That's what makes the first chapters depressing, not the lack of romantic connection between her and Zuko per se. Toph is not some airheaded lovergirl chasing after a man to love her. She's a woman literally fearing for her safety and unsure how the rest of her life would look knowing her husband seemed to be detached from her. Her best bet at a safety net is for him to have a little familiarity with her even if it's non-romantic. AND!! Even when he does eventually learn to connect with her, there are still factors hurting her simply because she's just a woman in a man's world. Zuko's favor is just a little respite from everything else that still puts her at a major disadvantage despite being in a high position of power.
Her character goes through so much pain and disillusionment as the story progresses because as a woman, she had always been doomed from the very beginning.
The message of the story was about the pain of womanhood the whole time.
Yes, in a sense, this is a horror story.

I listened to Annabelle Dinda's song "The Hand" over and over and over again as I wrote this chapter. I suggest you listen to it and digest the message for the full experience. Annabelle is such a magnificent lyricist and that song is a major influence on how I wrote this story overall. I cried a lot while writing this particular part of the story just because of Annabelle's song and imagining Toph as a woman in a world of men who have taken too much from her. I can only hope I gave the themes enough justice so you can feel what I felt too.

I think my favorite word in the english language might be "delicious" after hearing hozier use it to describe music as if it were something he can eat. I don't know why that statement flipped a switch so hard in my brain that I realized I can be more creative with how I describe things. Likeee, sometimes we don't always have to use words in their usual contexts. We can throw them around however we please and make something entirely new from it. It's kinda like how words such as reverence, worship, veneration, and adoration are often used in religious texts/settings but they also make beautiful prose when describing sex. It's ironic and so, so delicious.
