I took this interview with the FRAP podcast in June to talk about the fallout with Homestuck and why I'm done working with Andrew.
To recap: the Homestuck Bandcamp was a mess for 6 years starting in 2019. Albums were randomly shuffled and combined together, deleted, and sold at ridiculous discounts. Despite repeated promises to bring the catalog to streaming and physical media nothing had ever gotten done, and on top of it all they were repeatedly forgetting to pay royalties.
I spent the last few years being stonewalled by anybody that actually knows Andrew, who has been ghosting everybody involved for a decade. Even when I miraculously tracked down their email last year they first promised to fix everything and then ghosted. I didn't get any kind of response until later in 2025 when an anonymous email claiming to represent Homestuck reached out to say I had better stop complaining or they would cut me off of any future projects.
When the new team running Homestuck (composed entirely of anonymous moderators) finally gave in and fixed the Bandcamp I thought that perhaps we'd turned the corner and were going to see some progress toward overdue goals with the music. That was until May, when the same anonymous email reached out to demand I publicly apologize for having ever criticized Andrew. They presented what amounted to a pre-packaged callout doc complete with screenshots of statements my wife Alice and I had made over the course of 2 years scraped from various Discord servers.
Rather than respond to them I published their email in full. Unsurprisingly I was immediately dismissed and informed formally that I will not be involved in any future Homestuck projects.
I am pleased with the support so many of you have offered because whether or not I had much of a future with Homestuck, it is still a major chapter in my life and my biggest success. While it was unfortunate that this episode had to play out in public, I thought it was necessary to demonstrate that I don't align with the poor management decisions that have been made by Andrew and their various shell companies. Their long track record of attempts to disenfranchise, intimidate, and harass both fans and collaborators alike is unacceptable and it serves no purpose for me to endorse this behavior.

This anonymous burner email showed up out of the blue last September to say that it had heard I expressed some "interest" in being involved in future Homestuck projects last year after I put Andrew Hussie on blast for ghosting me in the middle of trying to finally get the broken Bandcamp fixed. I had no way to verify it was anyone involved in the company until I mentioned that WP was delinquent in sending music royalties for a year, upon which suddenly the entire music team received money. I was finally added to a new music team discord which hashed out the revitalized Bandcamp as it stands since last year.
I did NOT expect this anonymous account I haven't heard from in 7 months to suddenly cc Andrew and every one of their companies on what was essentially a pre-packaged callout doc using random conversations mostly between my wife and people across three different Discord servers with screen caps that the time stamps reveal to have been taken as far back as last July. This laundry list of things they think they're owed a public apology include remarks about completely unrelated subjects such as the development of Deltarune (hi Toby!) and Lexxy Douglass' failed Kickstarter.
The craziest part of this to me is that they admit to ghosting me deliberately on fixing the broken Bandcamp, a problem whose origins have never been fully explained and which has put What Pumpkin in violation of the terms of our contracts since 2019. Only after I dragged them kicking and screaming back into compliance by rallying public support on social media have we even gotten close to seeing this (mostly) fixed. And they think it's appropriate to tell me that the reason why they felt entitled to ghost me is because of remarks my wife made on social media when there was no way to tell whether they were ever going to follow up?
The comments we have made about Andrew, Toby, James, and Lexxy were all posted in the clear and each of them have my contact information if they felt the need to hash out their personal grievances with me. But to hold content fans enjoyed hostage over such pettiness and then demand I humiliate myself with a phony apology is an extraordinary low. They want to paint this like I'm desperate to continue working with them when they ought to be desperate for my assistance in rescuing a brand that's already tarnished by its constant misbehavior and inability to deliver anything its fans care about. I have no shame in letting them know exactly how I feel about their mob tactics and apologize for nothing.

I ruffled a few feathers putting "original voice of John Egbert" in my Twitter profile but need I remind you that this actually happened on this freshly-restored page from 2011! Toby has since apparently cast himself as John in the cartoon pilot with some outlets even going on to assert he's "reprising" his role (from what? The Baby Is You?). True fans know better.
I made this goofy track when the Warhammer of Zillyhoo first crossed over from being bonus content for Problem Sleuth to being canon content for Homestuck and was pleasantly surprised and amazed when Andrew included it here. I have been told it resembles the title music from Halo and while I hear the resemblance I have never played Halo and also mine is better.
