On July 19, 2013 Passenger played to a sold-out show at the El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles. Passenger (aka Mike Rosenberg) is a British folk-rock singer-songwriter. He took the stage at about 9:30PM and enthralled the mostly female audience for about two hours. Passenger doesn’t perform with a band. It’s just him, a guitar and a microphone. And for a few songs he backs away from the microphone and it’s just a man and a guitar and a capacity audience being very quiet so they could hear every word.

On Saturday night, June 8th 2013 Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers played to a packed house at The Fonda Theatre in Hollywood. Matter of fact, it was a very packed house and there’s an old saying, “You know it’s a good party when the police shut it down”. Well, on Saturday night, it wasn’t the police, it was the L.A. County Fire Marshall who effectively “shut it down” and Tom and The Heartbreakers left the stage.

The Swedish are coming! The Swedish are coming! On May 23rd, at the El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles, Shout Out Louds played to a packed house and the audience danced and sang a long with them for over 90 minutes. The words of their songs are on the melancholic side but you’d never know it from the dance–party atmosphere that was happening in the audience. Maybe that’s why the Shout Out Louds are so popular, everyone just wants to dance their troubles away.

Before she took the stage, I was able to do a quick interview with her. I want everyone to know, that she is smart, articulate and kind and all of the qualities that you see when she’s onstage are the real deal. She is conscientious of her fans and is not going to “sell out” and sound likes everybody else in order to get her songs on the radio. She is exactly the person she is when she’s onstage performing. We talked about everything from nerves before a performance to the North Pole.

On May 2, 2013 it was LIGHTS ON at the El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles. Lights played her acoustic album Siberia to a sold out crowd and there’s no doubt she brought her best game to the city of Angels. In my mind, Lights can do it all. She has the talent and the patience to take an album full of synths and dubstep and weave it into an acoustic force majeure.
