Halo 4 and Forerunner Architecture
"One of the design principles we wanted to implement for our Forerunner visuals was to always have a degree of accident in the shapes. It introduced an element of surprise through the design that stuck pretty well to the alien nature of the Forerunners. So, we have an assembly of smart geometric shapes all bound together with smaller and slicker surrounding structures, with surfaces that look and feel like metal, though they are not, and shapes that are solid, strong, and organised."

that was the thing about shepard. maybe it was one of the things that made her so great. she harbored no hate towards aliens. never has. she’d fight anyone that was against her, but if there was a soul on her side, it didn’t matter their past, or if they were from across the galaxy. the mission was always the one thing that would matter. the fight. she just wanted a better galaxy - as cliche as it was. the green eyes that had fallen upon him were soft, even with the battle worn features that surrounded them. ’ yes. ‘ the commander spoke truthfully. she wasn’t familiar with his race, but edi did massive amounts of research. ' do you know anything of the reapers? '
//> reap - er. Noun. A person or machine that harvests a crop.
"Ah, I am afraid not. I have not farmed a day in my life," he replied brightly, the suggestion of a chuckle leaving his pale throat. It was important within Forerunner culture that one never let any great degree of emotion be displayed in public, but a fair amount of mirth seemed to spill through his barely reserved expression.
Aquamarine eyes met Shepard's green, the faint outline of circuitry within his corneas clearly visible when one looked directly.
"My purpose is military in nature, rather than agricultural. My mother was a Lifeworker however; I am certain that I could find some information for you within her old files if you tell me what you need specifically."
Investigation always pulled Noble Two’s interest in the unknown wares of technology available to be searched and prodded for various information potentially helpful to her mission.
Cybernetic fingers tapped away at her personal console before attempting what was presented before her. However, the voice that interrupted her not out and around but within her helmet’s HUD had her halted near completely at the unexpected turn of events.
"I did not realise there was a requirement to ask for such things.” She answered, squinting at the text. “This was in part of my mission parameters. Find what I could.”
/\ There is a requirement to ask for things when those things already belong to someone else. Clearly I need to update this facility's encryption standards if I am to keep nosy hamanune from intruding where they should not. /\
The voice was chiding, almost like a disappointed parent at the discovery of a child's minor offense. Offensive Bias didn't really care whether or not Kat got the information she wanted; the facility was for materials storage, one of his primary extensions being planted within it just for the sake of keeping an accurate inventory of all the assets available to him as a Forerunner ancilla.
/\ You should update your encryption standards as well, Lieutenant Commander Catherine-B320. Aya, you are not the only one who can steal information. /\

"Rampancy..." She repeated softly. Tala knew AI would eventually go rampant... thinking themselves to death. Somehow, the black haired android had a feeling that insanity would come far sooner. The machine began to chew slightly on its lower lip. "He experienced it once... What does that mean? All AI who go through rampancy do not return. It's uncureable. How did you save him?"
"We ended up on opposite sides of a war fought by our creators," he continued, a brief data burst of casualty figures in the trillions and scores of worlds lost being sent in accompaniment of his words.
"My design was actually specifically created to be able to counter his, and I did so on more than one occasion. In our final battle, it ended with the only two survivors from either of our sides were we two. I used my remaining weapons to carve out his personality matrix and imprison him in an isolated network until I was able to work out a fix for his condition and purge the logic plague, which took to the order of about ten-thousand years.
It is curable, it's just that no one before me had both the processing power and the time to figure it out."
[ contxnder I'm reading about reaction drives and the vacuum energy/virtual particles used to power Forerunner tech and apparently Forerunner technology is not powered by bullshit and magic but instead by draining infant universes of their energy and causing their premature deaths ]

A small notification indicating a proximity alert flicked on in a long dormant part of the metarch's network, the machine's attention diverted to detection alarms emanating from a pair of Line Installations in a distant region of space.
//> Line Installations 32-36/33-36 report unidentified frigate-class vessel entering firing range.
//> Weaponry primed and ready.
//> Vessel appears free of contamination/infection.
//> Monitor 331 requests permission to destroy unidentified vessel as per Ecumene protocol.
//> ...
//> Permission temporarily denied. Weaponry on stand-by.
Within the vessel a power fluctuation would dim the lights for a brief moment, a small blue glyph appearing in the corner of all holographic displays as the metarch burrowed his way into the frigate's electronic systems. It took little more than an instant before the shipboard PA crackled to life, a soft and mildly amused voice echoing outwards.
"Unidentified vessel, please cancel your current course. You approach the Jat-Krula Protected Boundary -- no foreign objects are allowed within."

"I can, to the best of my ability." the Spartan responded as she shifted her weight again.
At least they weren’t trying to kill her.
Yet.
"First of all, I would like to know why you are here. Your fellows have been rather good about maintaining operational security over radio and I have not found any revealing objective records within your armor's systems. Core Authority installations are quite important; I do hope you weren't planning on destroying this place.
Rebuilding it isn't really an ordeal I would like to deal with. Finding the proper materials to construct a new facility would be rather aggravating to say the least, and brother does not take aggravation well."
\/ How refreshingly evil of you, little brother. I never thought of you as the merciless type! \/
/\ Hm. Perhaps my code is unraveling a little bit. I shall have to perform self-diagnostics later on.
Still, you must admit that it would be a nice change of pace. Aya, this galaxy is dreadfully dull. /\
[ if you don't think Catalog is cool then we can't be friends ]
/\ You know, we could fire the Array again. There isn’t anyone around to tell us not to. I was directly linked directly into Installation 12 during the sterilization of Path Kethona. I know the proper authorization codes.
It would be a trivial matter to access Installations 01 through 07. /\
\/ We very well could. The thought has passed numerous times, but I lack the initiative. I still have fragments within all the Installations. \/
/\ A localized pulse could be fun. Watch all the civilizations in a panic about why a world was suddenly sterilized.
A reminder that they do have betters in existence. Mother would disapprove, of course. /\
She watched as one of the two wandered away, her attention returning to the other. “So… I guess this is when you ask me to leave?”
"There are only three people in existence that Mendicant Bias and I always ask things of, and they are all dead," he replied matter-of-factly, still wearing his vaguely friendly, placid expression across his snow-white features. "Most everyone else does what we want whether they like it or not."
"I ask people to do things because that is the polite thing to do. Dear brother would much rather reduce you to ash and allow your deity of choice to sort everything else out.
I actually have a few questions for you, if you would not mind answering them."

It wasn't often that Offensive Bias felt a presence within his reign that did not bear his brother's signature, the entrance of a new mind within one of the far-flung areas of his domain drawing the attention of a primary extension. Within the Forerunner network he was represented as nothing more than a soft blue glow, the immense strength of his compound mind powering him through any distance he needed to cross to address foreign items. Descend upon the new presence he did, slicing off the sub-network's connections and building a hundred thousand new safeguards where the old ones had failed to prevent the breach, his representation splashing downwards in a gentle expansion of light.
/\ Didn't your creators tell you that it's rude to access systems that you do not have the proper authority to enter? Aya, apparently common decency died with the Ecumene.
No one even tries to ask nicely anymore. /\
