Because of my experiences I have had, the research I have done into others experiences and the world around me, I often wonder about our world. What I think about is that innately we know there are these abilities which others would call paranormal. Why do I think we know this? Because we are trying so desperately to re-create these abilities artificially through machines and gadgets. Lets be a little hypothetical about this for a moment. If you could communicate telepathically, what would be the need for phones? Chat rooms? Messengers? If we could move things with our mind would we need cranes, robots, front loaders, dump trucks, cars (we could technically move ourselves and others) trains, planes, etc.?
Everyday we are learning something new about ourselves as a species. One thing that I have learned is that I don't believe in 'paranormal'. I believe that there is a scientific explanation. For instance, I mentioned in my introduction that in one of my meditations I began to have the ability to seemingly read someone elses mind who was troubled by something. The meditation involved the sense of smell, or to be more precise, the recollection of a scent. How I believe that it may be the activation of the believed-to-be vestigial Vomero-nasal organ came through research and the idea that this isn't a paranormal phenomenon. What the Vomero-nasal organ does is allows us to receive pheromone signals produced by animals (including humans). The brain interprets those signals we perceive as emotional states or states of intention. We see this most often in the wild. In more superstitious times we would say 'he smells the fear on you'. But, that isn't superstitious at all. I would hazard to say that when scared we probably do give off some sort of chemical signal. If we are sexually aroused, we give off a chemical signal.
So if we are in close contact with someone, we see them often and have a good idea of what is going on in their lives, and we can use our Vomero-nasal organ and then interpret those signals as emotional states, might we not be able to guess what is causing those emotional states? I say yes and this is why I don't think 'reading someone's mind' is a paranormal phenomenon. It is normal. Even if it is someone we don't know, we can still pick up their chemical signals. We can't logically fill in the blanks based upon personal information, but we do have a tendency to fill the gaps with assumptions. What would make a person feel a certain way and give off those signals? There is much to be said about this. Have you ever met someone that you didn't like, but then later you became good friends? Ever heard the saying, "don't judge a book by it's cover?" Now, on a larger scale have you ever walked into a room that was so charged with energy, say aggression, that you are expecting a fight to break out? There are numerous examples of this I am sure you can recall having experienced. You receive a signal, but can only interpret it as an emotional state, you don't have enough information to do otherwise.
Now, this is just working with the sense of smell. I will review this sense and techniques and further delve into the other senses. I will record what I do, meditative techniques, so that if you care to join me in this experiment you can and I would love to hear from you! My ultimate goal is to provide as much anecdotal evidence to warrant real research. I will also post references to scientific research that has already been done. I wish to continue with Mr. Lloyd Hopkins, whom I shall discuss later, research and how to be 'fully human'. We will never get there completely with machines and gadgets, but we will try.
Today I am working on the meditation of being. During this time, I imagine floating in space where there is no sound. I have not been born yet so I have no form and I also cannot see. I just am. It is finding the essence of me beyond my ego.
