so last night i had a minor meltdown because i miss wolfstarâ as one does ofc.
and i just laid there thinking about wolfstar having a daughter and guys 𼚠can you imagine?
itâs a few years post grad and sirius and remus have had their ups and downs, but truly their relationship was strong and stableâ they fought at times yes, remus didnât stand up for himself enough when turned down or losing jobs due to full moons (sirius detested this). or sirius got tunnel vision and failed to care for himself properly (remus dotted on him). but all in all, they both knew at the end of the day they belonged together, that the love they had was not going away.
so, when they get an owl from a frantic lily (a new healer at st.mungos), that a three year old girl was just brought in for a werewolf bite, orphaned, alone, and absolutely terrified. well, sirius wasnât sure the parchment hit the table before he was already out the door.
they hadnât discussed having children really, it was an idea sure, something they both assumed they would get to eventually. it wasnât out of the cards, but perhaps their deck had just shuffled slightly.
remus wasnât far behind sirius by any means, logic and discussionâ those would come later. but for a moment, remus lupin was four years old again, unable to understand how his life had just changed, why he hurt the way he did, and he hated the way someone even younger than he had been, now had the same cruel fate.
her name was sadie, she had black wild curls that even rivaled jamesâ and bright green eyes that held nothing but fear when they arrived. she had taken to lily, one of the only healers who showed the young girl true kindness, many still uneducated on lycanthropy (sirius had many grievances about this). the bite was on her thigh, red and inflamed before it had been wrapped by healers as the young girl didnât understand why it burned and kept attempting to rub the mark away.
it was a two week hospital stay, in which remus or sirius were constantly at the hospital, and in the rare moments neither of them were, lily was. the others offered to come by, but lily feared sadie would become overwhelmed with too many new faces at such a heightened time, and right now, understanding how her body was taking on the lycanthropy was more pressing than adjustment to so many new faces. the ministry was hesitant at first to release sadie into remus and siriusâ careâ one argument coming up that remus was a werewolf, and therefore unfit to parent a child. sirius was escorted out of the room that day, and their lawyer, along with several letters that attested to good moral character, were able to grant the two temporary custody of the girl, waiting the formal adoption process (as that could not be rushed within such a short time frame).
it was after this that sirus had a proper spiral, realizing he had no idea how to parent, thus far he had just been the fun uncle to harry and neville. sure he had great friends to look up too in regards to their parenting, but it wasnât the same as becoming this on his own. remus had a similar experience, though a bit more contained than siriusâ. it shifted their dynamic, allowing them to adjust and take on this new shift in their life together. it was terrifying, but they loved it nonetheless.
sadie had been pure perfection in their eyes, she warmed up to the pair after the first two days of seeing them consistently coming around. she loved to snuggle into remusâ warm jumpers, and put tiaras and bows in siriusâ hair.
they didnât know what to do for sadieâs room in their flat, therefore, they went overboard. they made sure she had all her needs met, and truly any want was likely somewhere within the piles of toys that sirius insisted she needed. remus set the room up, afraid that siriusâ scatterbrained mind would lose track of prioritizing the necessities firstâ the bed and dresser, along with ensuring all toiletries were sorted and they had shower gel fit for a toddler girl.
the two weeks simultaneously flew by, and was never ending at the same time. sadie, being so young, didnât quite grasp why she had been in the hospital, nor why she wasnât going back to the foster home she had originally been with at the time of the accident (the couple having decided they couldnât handle the aftermath of the bite). but she seems pleased enough that she got to go and be with sirius and remus (siri and rem as she called them). and after that, they fell into the trial period, attempting to understand their new normal, and having both successes and failures. but they were trying, and for merlinâs sakeâ they loved every second of it.
but if you asked sirius, heâd say their first true success came the night of the next full moonâ when remus attempted to help sadie understand what was to come, and her little eyes filled with tears in fear of being alone and hurting. and while they couldnât take that all away (and trust me, they both shed tears at that)â they were able to ensure she would never be alone, that she would never be caged like an animal or belittled for who she was or wasnât. they were able to ensure that she knew she was beautiful, and loved. and so that first full moon moony and padfoot became parents the same way remus and sirius had.
