Pro-Messmer Propaganda

Sidenote: it's called the wicked serpent in Jpn ver which is weird given it's different than what messmer called it in his 2 phase dialog.

Yeah, I agree! I subscribe to “not everything that looks evil is actually evil”, which is the vibe Messmer exudes, why would his serpent be any different? Like, at least be evil with nuance. Also, in eng ver of Messmer’s kindling it’s referred to as a “wicked serpent”, so maybe they just picked all slightly different translations of the same word ahah. If you know of a post or tweet or something going over the japanese text of Messmer’s remembrance etc, that would be super interesting to see!

The Abyssal Serpent’s main traits are its darkness and its ability to compel fear, to the point even Marika, literal God, feared its power. The Abyssal Woods’ main traits are its darkness and ability to compel fear, to the point even Torrent, who’d ride into hell with us, is too fearful to go there. Take a look at the map’s description:

“Map of the abyss at the east of the Gravesite Plain. A thick forest sprawls at the depths of the ravine that is untouched even by sunlight. Known as the sanctum of Sage Midra, and is a region forbidden by the hornsent.” (Map: Abyss)

It says the region is “forbidden by the Hornsent”, and “untouched by sunlight”. I imagine after the crusade that the Abyssal Serpent is also quite disagreeable to the Hornsent, and is “shorn of light”, and it also features powers of an accursed fire. What can we do with all these obvious similarities? I dunno! It’s kinda driving me mad. Might have to go join Midra here in a second…
