Currently really into 16th-century French history in general, War and Peace/Great Comet, Poldark (2015), and (though I don’t post a lot about it) Revolutionary Girl Utena. Having a bit of a spell with Edith Wharton’s The House of Mirth. Mad (as in perpetually angry) about Reign (2012). Talked to the mayor about pride being canceled from the rain and he told me that one of his students that came out him this year was present at the festival for the 30 minutes that it was underway and that thirty minutes was enough to put a light in his eyes.

I realize people are probably like 'why does your mayor have students?'

For our city the mayor and tge city manager are separate roles. The manager does all the day to day stuff, the mayor goes to events and ribbon cuttings and the like. Instead of mayoral elections, the mayor is a member of city council, appointed by vote of other council members.

City council makes decisions. Mayor announces them. Its not a full time job, it does not pay the bills.

Our mayor is a high school teacher.
