This is crucial as it is a binaural (three dimensional) recording, and that only translates through headphones. - The volume should be slightly over the standard of your device. 5-7 on Macs. - The piece will take a moment to start. Ten seconds in you will start to hear footsteps. YEAR ZERO. GO BACK, START AGAIN. WAKE UP PERFECT. Year Zero is a sound piece that was exhibited alongside an installation in February 2016 in London. It is an immersive sound piece and installation by Meri Karhu, exploring a world before, during, and after an apocalyptic catastrophe. A binaural narration takes the listener on an enveloping journey from the beginning of life itself to prehistorical rainforests to crumbling buildings and burning skylines. Meri Karhu is a London-based fine art student at Central Saint Martins. The installation was displayed to one person at a time. It was a makeshift emergency shelter, thrown together in a pace that tells of catastrophic necessity. Last shelter on the edge of the world. The listener walks into the space and seeks for headphones, then sits down and listens.
