(same person that asked about plastic man no more). i feel the same way. when they use plas for edgy purposes, i rather prefer that they focus on how terrible it would be to have him as an enemy. it really bugs me that they brought up the character’s moral values in such a way (wow, it feels like none of what happened to him ever mattered!). i don't know, it felt distasteful to see the character do such horrible things. i think the writer didn't consider that making plas going back to crime is something not edgy but just genuinely sad. i especially cringed at the end at the part when he asks luke to rob the store. idk, it went so much against the character's essence.
other thing that bugged me was how ooc batman was. as you said, all the league in general was very weird, but the stuff he did and laughed at was strange coming from someone with a thorough way of being as his. seeing him asking luke to join them as their new plastic man was... extremely offputting, knowing that in the first place the real batman would have moved his ass to save plas and in the second place that bats of all people knows what it's like to lose a parent and feel enraged about it. that person was defo not bruce wayne lol

Exactly！When the writer has him go back to crime or commit horrific acts, they’re not being “dark’“mature.” it’s just lazy writing to show how much they disrespect all these the characters.Detective Chimp?Metal men?Nah,they are merely elements for setting up more spectacular tragic scenes here.
I always enjoy discussing about the idea “what if Plastic Man actually goes rogue”.By all the logic of the universe,he could have become another super villain—Like something Eel O'Brian would say：“Life pushed me around when I was a kid,now I gonna push back”,a tragic, rage-filled living nightmare creature…Instead, he made a choice,he’s got power and mind to be a hero.
What if the decision goes the other way?
For the Batman part—I just can't stand that even under such circumstances, Plas would say something like“Batman is cool”,even they treat him dirty.It feels don’t match their common dynamic.Their relationship might be unhealthy from time to time,but,if someone questions or denies the value and capabilities of Plas(including Plas himself)Batman would undoubtedly be the first among all to defend him.He CARES,he ACTS.Plastic Man’s feelings towards Batman have never been an one-sided thing.
