I think something this season is really hitting me with reminders of is just how young the girls are in the teen timeline rn. Mair crying and whaling when she fell in the pit and taking the bear spray with absolutely no plan, seeing Shauna happy and smiling and waving in the dream sequence, watching Melissa try and awkwardly flirt not really knowing where she stands. During winter everything was so dire and serious and the true formation of the wilderness rituals were starting, the girls where doing things so far from the ordinary and so far from morality that there wen't as many moments of like oh that a kid. That's not a woman that's a girl that's a child. It doesn't moralise their actions, and so much of what happened out there still absolutely didn't need to, but as a microcosm of teen girlhood it's such a good exaggerated example of how badly (the hunt, death, infighting) and how impressive (Survival, building, connection) things can be when its just kids trying their best in impossible situations, and how a lot of the time the two come hand in hand.
