"Vik, I..." A spit of static electricity meets your eardrum; you curse, recoiling away from the receiver. Your personal telephone is a quaint brass device with a rotary dial, a Piltovan invention, only recently smuggled into Zaun. It's a shame that the connection works like utter shit here. "Shit, Viktor, can you say that again?"
"... this inferior little contraption." Viktor's voice sizzles back into clarity. "I need you. Come to the lab."
His tone doesn't leave much room for argument. You sit up, perching on the edge of your bed. A gear-clock mounted on the wall above you clicks rhythmically. Viktor must be sitting at his desk, as his telephone likes to rest at his workstation relatively close to his tools. The wire couldn't reach far enough to bring him anywhere else.
"Okay," You reply. "I don't know if you heard me before the line started breaking up."
"Sorry." It's as soft and breathy as a whisper. "I cannot say that I did."
"I miss you."
The Machine Herald purrs, "Oh, but I miss you more."
"I can come now." You swallow. "But even just this is... it's nice. Hearing your voice, I mean."
"Yes..." His sigh is heavy and close. For a small moment, you shudder, almost able to believe that he is right there next to you. "But I do not wish to wait much longer."
"Oh, really? Why?"
Viktor doesn't answer. There's a muffled noise; maybe he's adjusting the angle of the telephone.
"Viktorrr..."
"Yes?"
"What are you doing?"
"I am pleasuring myself," Viktor answers rather bluntly. "Without you, I might add. And that will continue, unless you decide to come to the lab, as I have already requested."
Excitement sparks within you.
"Mmm, I don't know." You cross one leg over the other. "I'm not sure if I will."
Viktor exhales hard, in apparent frustration. You can picture him, sprawled in his chair, his metal chest heaving gently, strands of mussed chestnut hair tickling his mask. Is he plucking at the loose wires around his inner thighs, or is he rubbing his wet cock against the lax motions of his palm, simply teasing, while he waits for you to give him what he actually desires?
Viktor huffs, "You find such humor in torturing me."
"A little bit. It was your idea to use the phone for this, anyway."
The Machine Herald quiets for a moment. In Emberflit Alley, in his cool and lonely lab, he listens to the thrum of machinery, and his own breathing, and the river of static coming from the other line. How can one human be so enthralling and yet so positively maddening?
"Please," He murmurs. "I want you more than you could possibly imagine. I cannot stop thinking about how breathtaking you are."
"Mhm... and what else?"
Viktor's accent has grown thick, almost velvety. "I want to have you the moment you finally decide you'd like to stroll in. I will show you how deeply I have missed you- I need you, I need you to use me until I am reminded of my humanity. I want to fuck you until my name becomes all your feeble voice could possibly muster."
Your breathing quickens, your heart hammering someplace between your ribs. "You... wow- this is... quite the device."
"I will admit, it is very innovative." Viktor sighs, and you get the sense that he is exhaling pure steam, as he fucks himself much faster. "Do you feel the same?"
"Yeah... God, it's not fair that you get to touch and I don't."
A laugh. "Poor little thing. Were you awaiting my permission?"
"Bet you'd like that, you bastard." You twirl the phone cord around your finger to keep yourself busy. "No, it's just that if I start now, I'm never going to make it over."
"And yet you are shaking, are you not? How delightful it would be to watch you, as you squirm pathetically, grinding your poor body against the bed, simply because I have not allowed you to do more."
Your teeth snag your bottom lip. "Fuck... would you just watch me? Or would you give me what I want?"
"Of course, I... ah- I will reward your obedience when I deem your pleading to be sufficient."
"Viktor..."
"Yes, my dear?"
"I really want you right now."
A pause. Soft mechanical noise can be heard from the other line. "Perhaps we should discuss our ideas in person."
"Okay... okay. I'll-" Static. Fucking line is breaking up again. "I'm on my way- just- fuck, hello?"
"I can hear you." A crisp electric charge kisses your ear. You think of Viktor's hands laced in yours, his large form pinning you into place, his mask nuzzling your neck, the hum beneath metal, the pleasant vibrations brushing your skin as he purrs sweet nothings. The real thing will be so much better. "Ridiculous... it was a mistake to rely on inferior Piltovan machinery. Can they not even engineer a proper communication line?"
"Guess not."
"Come, then." Viktor makes a small noise — stretching, maybe? Straightening in his chair, so he can at least pretend to have found some decorum. "Do not keep me waiting."

the machine herald is usually very thorough when it comes to his research — the future of humanity rests in his hands, after all. he measures everything thrice, he's peculiar about his tools and can often become obsessed with their make and efficiency. but when you're involved, it's a little more complicated... if you dislike when he uses gloves because of the feel of them, he will opt to use his hands instead. if you are nervous about an upcoming experiment, perhaps you fear the pain, or the shape of the iron contraption he must place you in makes you nervous, he will attempt to seek ways to help with your comfort.
his ideas begin to become rather elaborate. the dichotomy between your emotions is just so intriguing to observe... perhaps you'd want him to soothe you. it's alright, my sweet darling. I prepared a few medications to help you, would you like them? perhaps you'd want him to hold your hand while he slices open your chest to examine your heart. such a delicate procedure would be difficult to perform one-handed, but viktor will assure you, he knows it by heart, (heh heh) and there is no-one more capable to take care of you than him. if the sight of blood frightens you, he would hate to have to blindfold you or strap you to the chair... but for a human without any mechanical enhancements, you are quite obedient. even if you're dizzy, even if his name is all you can say and he is all you can focus on, he's sure you'll listen if he simply tells you to keep looking at him.
he can fix that, if you'd like. he could provide any augmentations at no cost to you. (oh, he would really, really like that.) besides, he has studied you enough to know what you might want or need more than you might know yourself.
for you... the one who trusts him, who listens to him so well, who believes in his work despite the scrutiny from others, especially those from topside... for you, the machine herald would do absolutely anything. except release you from his lab. but that won't be a problem. you understand what you must do, for the betterment of all, right?

and I've definitely done that, I was honestly not knowledgeable on machines at all so I did a lot of research for my previous fics haha. I imagined that the machine herald's bits would be similar to a car's engine, so I ended up doing a lot of research on cars LOL. but it was also very helpful to research different types of mechanical engineering terms... there is actually a whole wikipedia page for that... I would say just try to have fun and base it off of whatever interests you! I think machine herald is very steampunk, but I gave him wires just because I wanted reader to play with them 🚶♀️
