  The photo showed Junjin with cheeks puffed full with air and complete with eyes wide open, making an expression like Dooly, evoking laughter.

To borrow the words of VIXX’s Leo, “the father of idols” Shinhwa is receiving lots of love within Korea now. Often chosen as role models by current idols, Shinhwa is also famous for their “longtime friendship”, something rarely seen in the music industry. Especially being often described as 1st generation idols and “Korea’s longest running idol”, Shinhwa continues to maintain a tight teamwork.

Shinhwa released their 12th full album “WE” on 26 February and have set a record with their title song “Sniper”. Shinhwa won 10 times on various music shows with “Sniper” and set a new record with their comeback in 1 year and 9 months. As a result that broke that 8 wins of “This Love”, their 11th album title track, it is the group’s highest record of wins. Like the 1st generation idols they are who shook the world in the 1990s and 2000s, they showed their 17 years of experience, and have proven “Shinhwa power”.

There is a need for us to be stricter. If we have even the slightest self-awareness that it is dangerous to instigate differentiation and prejudice based on a certain inclination, we should refrain from mentioning or giving pressure over age. Who is the one who determines what is the appropriate age and the right actions for that age, and why is it a problem if what is right isn’t followed? To be at the mercy of something like that, is such a waste of the precious feelings of liking something with enthusiasm.

Last week, cartoonist Chun Gyeyoung tweeted, “People around me are surprised, wondering how I can like idols at such an age. What surprises me even more when I hear something like that is..it isn’t like I like idols with my knee cartilage, what has being old have to do with it…I can like them as long as I have the strength to change channels.”  This tweet has been RT-ed so many times that more or less everyone has seen it. Looking at the close to 5000 RTs it has received, you can infer that it is true that there are many people who agree or are interested in it. Is there a need to look far away? You, over there, who is being questioned “Still?” when you’re at an age where, socially, it is right to stop. And I, the writer who clapped my knee cartilage like a seal with my palms and grabbed hold of my keyboard when I read that tweet. Could there be a better timing than this? Today, March 24, is the 17th debut anniversary of Korea’s longest running idol group “Shinhwa”.

I will not say this as SHCJ. Nope. I’m not an official one, even I just started liking them from This Love era. and well, I even opened this blog just on this era.

I will say this as a person who likes K-Pop as general.
