(I'm going to be very inconsistent with Jax's pronouns in this post)
Okay. So.
I saw a post about Jax and how people "just couldn't handle complex characters like her", and I sorta just half jokingly replied to it with "oh, well she basically murdered two people"
but the more I think about it the more it bothers me.
Jax has depth, sure. We're shown why they do what they do, but that doesn't mean I have to like them. At the end of the day, most of Jax's actions we've seen are aggressive, cruel, abusive.
The show doesn't really give Gangle all that much time, but it still stops to focus on her trauma relating to Jax. If Jax was a real person in our world, you wouldn't be so quick to excuse these actions. This is the type of stuff people get cancelled for.
I said Jax murdered people, half seriously because yeah. Jax drove Ribbit to suicide, and doesn't change his behavior after these consequences either. He should know better when Kaufmo tries to reach out, and should especially know better during the events of the show proper.
I'm glad Jax started figuring themselves out at the end (even if Gooseworx saying it's supposed to be subtle somewhat confuses me)
but that doesn't mean Jax isn't awful.
