"Hello? Melissa?" Charlotte asked, knocking on the door to Melissa's apartment. Hopefully, she got the address right. And the time right. It'd be awful silly of her if she was wrong. She didn't even want to imagine what that conversation would be like.
"This is Charlotte? I'm ready to go the mall if you are!" she called, pulling at the side strap of her purse anxiously. Melissa had been nothing but kind to her, of course, yet she couldn't help but feel...uneasy in front of the door. Like there was something wrong about whatever was on the other side.
Charlotte decided to ignore it, however. She wanted to make a friend, after all. Today was going to be a great day!
(( @ccrp-technical-this-is-charlotte))
"Oh!" Melissa happyily yelped when she heard Charlotte at the door. She grabbed her purse with a cat keychain on it and had a mini lecture to her pets about being good boys and staying quiet. The usual. She locked them in the closet and opened up the front door, immediately steping out and closing it behind her just in case.
"Charlotte! Hi! Sorry I took a moment, had to settle some small things aha. But I'm ready! Just one thing-" She then locked up four separate locks on the door. "There! Let's head out."
Charlotte only caught a very short glimpse of the inside of the apartment, but what she saw seemed normal enough. Very pink. Cool your jets, Char, you're off being paranoid over nothing!
"Not a problem!" she exclaimed, a light chuckle in her voice. Charlotte watched with a detached curiosity as Melissa locked the front door. Does this area get a lot of burglaries? She'd have to ask Sam when he got back from work... "I'm just glad I got the right place! I don't think I've ever been on this side of town before."
Charlotte then began the walk back to the elevator, careful not to get lost as she had when first getting to the complex. She'd always lived in walk-ups or garden apartments, so trying to navigate the interior corridors had been a little novel, to say the least.
"Really? Guess that's no surprise, it's a bit far off after all. I love it around here though! They allow pets, no one makes complaints about noise or anything, plus I like a cozier place. I should really invite you in one day!" Hopefully she can get her animals in control..
Mellissa walks and talks with Char until they're outside the building.
"Oh, well that'd be mighty kind of you! I'd love to visit for a while!" Charlotte smiled at the thought. A friend, at last. It's all she'd ever wanted, really. One friend. It was almost enough to make her forget about the abundance of locks. Almost, anyhow.
Once they arrived at her car, she turned to Melissa.
"Sorry, it's a bit of a mess," Charlotte muttered, a nervous chuckle quickly following her words. "Do you have a preference for music? My radio's all busted, but I have a couple of CDs if you'd like to pick one? Or we can just talk. That'd be real swell, too!"
"Oh I don't mind at all!" She reassured. Melissa opened the side door and slid in the passenger seat. "Hmm" she shuffles through some of the cd's handed to her and ultimately picking a handmade looking mix.
"Think this will do?" She holds it out in her hand with a smile for Charlotte to see.

Melissa was found in one of the only not-so-supermarkets in Hatchetfield looking at an assortment of different knives. It's been a while since she treated herself to some new ones. She picked up a pink set and inspected them when suddenly she sees Ted come around the corner. She desperately wanted to ignore him but they've clearly made eye contact. She forces a smile and looks back to the collection hoping he won't come by.
@meow4melissa
His basket in his hands had three things - pina colada mix, a loaf of bread, and a thing of bacon. Honestly, he'd been good to go and had only been debating grabbing some pineapple slices to spice up his drink for later when he caught the eyes of Melissa across the way.
He flashed a smarmy grin, fixed his hair, straightened his collar, and walked over with his standard swagger.
With a nonchalant lean Ted delivered what he considered a perfect pick-up line, "Sorry, but I think they're out of cucumber," he waited until Melissa looked back at him to add, "But you can always have mine."
He paired this with an eyebrow waggle that was practically his trademark.
@meow4melissa
Melissa took in a breath as Ted walked over. She deeply didn't want to talk to him today. Or ever, really. It was meant to be a free day where she could peacefully do her shopping and hang out with her girls later. She just held her hands together in front of her and held a small but sort of blank smile.
"Hi, Ted." Was all she said before attempting to just get back to her shopping. Hopefully he'd leave her alone but knowing him, it wasn't likely.
A frown crossed Ted's mouth for a moment, but he recovered easily. Either it was her distant attitude or the faint memory of electricity that has surged through him on the last timeline. Well, he pushed it all aside and focused on what he was good at: flirting.
"Whatchu checking out?" He asked, "Besides me?" Another wink followed.
His eyes caught the knives but didn't register danger. "Need some new knives? Maybe I could uh... recommend some."
Ted knew jack shit about knives but dammit all if he wouldn't try to get his game back to par. It seemed all his flirting attempts lately had fallen flat on their face.
Melissa was going to answer his first question untill the pickup line came. Gross. She just hummed a sort of acknowledgment that he existed and that was it. God was it hard to control her face at the moment.
"No, I think I know what I need. Thanks." As if she'd take any advice from him. Especially when she knows so much.
"Oh. Okay. Yah, cool, that's fine," he frowned and then covered it with his standard smirk. "Don't need the ol' Tedster. No biggie."
He slid aside, well aware when he wasn't needed. "I guess I'll uh... see you around then, 'lissa." Ted offered a small wave.
Aw. Maybe her tactics to keep him down were finally working. At least a little. Normally he was at least a tad more precistant before he screwed off. Still, his departure left her relieved. "See ya, Ted." She waved back with a soft smile.

Heya Charlotte! Hope you don't mind me asking but, I was wondering if you'd be free to do that window shopping we talked about earlier? Could be fun!
@meow4melissa
Oh! Why yes, I'd love that!
Do you want me to come over and pick you up? You can pop over to my place at any time if you'd prefer that, too. Or we could just meet eachother there after work! I'm free to do whatever, really!
I'm just glad to have the chance to make a friend from work! Especially since Ted stopped coming in not too long ago...
Oh well actually if you could pick me up that would be great! I would really appreciate it :) I was actually thinking about doing some baking afterwards but I don't know if you'd be interested it that. Weird thing about Ted though huh? Might as well not worry about it! But I'm happy to be able to be your friend too :D
It is
Wednesday

"HUMP DAY, my favorite day of the week."
oh thaaattsss why melissa thinks you're a dog! i get it now! /silly
Wait.
Melissa thinks I'm a dog??!?!
I mean... she's not wrong though. I am pretty excitable and loveable, right?
@meow4melissa [if you wanted to chime in, no pressure]
SSSSURE SOMETHING LIKE THAT, BIG MAN
That face makes me doubt you.
What's up man? Level with me here.
(it's some kind of kink thing, isn't it?)
mmmm. i would level with you but if i did i think you'd never want to show up to work ever again
...It's definitely not a kink thing, though, if that soothes you at all!!! .which. actually no it being a kink thing would've probably been the better option..........
It's...
Not a kink thing?
Well then what the hell IS IT?!?!?!?!????!???!
You know what, maybe I don't want to know after all. Melissa may be one fine ass-sistant secretary but lines must be drawn somewhere.
Mine's just trying to think too hard about this.
you've got a good head on your shoulders. best decision i've seen anyone make in a while good luck out there big man
PS: just, maybe don't accept any invitations from her. its in your best interests if you kinda, keep out.
(That fuckin goat'll beat my ass for interfering with shit one of these days,, maybe I oughta stop ...)
Uh....
Ok.
(Shit that made me feel like Paul. What the fuck is wrong with me? That goat fucker is up to something I bet.)
Hey, Melissa. Don't you think it's kind of...I don't know, super unethical to kidnap your coworkers and cut off their fingers? Even if they do act like 'dirty dogs.'
I don't know who told you that but! They're not my coworkers, they're pretending to be. You don't want dogs living in skin suits walking about do you? Someone's got to teach them how to act. Nothing unethical about it :)

Um...
Is there a cat on here or what?
That or Melissa is being weird again...
Hey @meow4melissa I think there's a cat over here. Thought you might wanna know.
"Ohmygoodness! Is that a sweet little kitty? What are ya doing all the way over here by Teddy? Come here" She absolutely ignores Ted and try's to call out too it.
Hey come on, why wouldn't the cat be near me? I'm not that bad of a guy.
Besides, we all know I'm a pussy magnet 😏 🧲 🐈
She huffs murmurs something something dog under her breath, continuing to try and get the cat over. She searches her person for some treats or litterally anything but all she feels is her trusty taser. She glances at Ted, then around the area to see if anyone was near. No one. Tempting situation but she really should focus on this cat. It would definitely run away if she made any sudden movements. She normally kept some treats in her car but she didn't want to leave the poor kitty with Ted. Who was still standing there. "Are you going to help orr?" Her voice still light but slight frustration apparent. At least to anyone who was paying attention.
Ted stood there, hands in the pockets of his slacks and gave a shrug without removing them, "Why would I help? I'm not a cat person, 'lissa."
As per usual, he was blind and deaf to her plight.
But Ted recalled his failures of flirting with her before. And to him, this was still a fine 'sex-retary' and so, thereby, he acted. A roll of eyes, yet still he crouched down and made his lanky frame smaller. He was practically on all fours, all for a dumb cat. What had the world come to?
"Psss psss," he attempted. "Here kitty, kitty."
Not a cat person? Of course. Why would he? She's just about had it with him until he crouches down to help her. Weird. She stared at him with some scrutiny and a bit of surprise.
The cat actually seemed a bit more responsive now that Ted was helping. At least there was that. It's head tilted and it took a couple very slow steps toward them.
"Aw that's right, come on sweetie." She said quietly but with excitement, holding her hand out in hopes to entice it closer.
His knees hurt. His back hurt. This was the stupidest fucking thing he'd probably done and if anyone other than Melissa saw him in that moment, he'd deny existing just to escape the weirdness of crouching down for a cat of all things.
The cat padded close enough to sniff Melissa's hand and God she practically cooed at the thing like it was a baby.
Ted suppressed a roll of his eyes.
And then, because maybe the world hated him or he had a latent cat allergy or something he sneezed. Loudly. Correction, very loudly because that was just the way he sneezed. Which did mean the cat jumped and took off as fast as it's little feet could take it.
He wiped his nose and stood, "Welp. So much for that," he voiced, which wasn't an apology but more like a dismissal. "Probably filthy anyway," he added.
Melissa silently stared at where the cat had ran off to for two seconds.
Then her head snapped back up to Ted and she stood with a new look in her eyes. "What is wrong with you?! You scared the poor little thing away and you don't even care. Now it's run off to who knows where all terrified and alone."
She frantically walked over to where it ran off but she sees nothing. Her poor heart could break. Maybe it had ran off into some unkind strangers, or some other rabid dogs. She attempted to call it for a second before her face washed over with sadness before it went right back to anger.
Melissa turned back to Ted and went up to him. "This is all your fault, Teddy." She pointed a finger.
Ted held up his arms placatingly, signaling surrender, "Woah there, hot stuff, I can't help it if I had to sneeze. Involuntary reaction," he defended.
He jerked his chin towards where the cat had disappeared, "'sides it'll probably come back here. Especially if you put food out or something. Geez." He lowered his hands slowly, in case Melissa suddenly decided to claw his eyes out or something. She did look awfully cat like - all hissy and pissed at him.
"Can't say I didn't try," he added.
"Well you tried and failed and now that cat is off in the dangerous world and-" She can't help but think something awful has happened. "I just can't even with you. It's always something." She huffs.
She just needs to go find it instead of dealing with him right now. Her eyes shift around still hoping it's close by. Maybe she can use him somehow? "Just, can you at least try and look for it? And don't scare it off again! Can you at least do that for me, Teddy?"
"Sorry I'm always such a colossal fuck up, Melissa," Ted threw his hands in the air, but his apology sounded more like sarcasm than the real thing. "I definitely want to spend my evening standing around waiting on a stupid cat to come back, God."
Ted pinched the bridge of his nose then huffed, "Fine. This one time. But then you owe me," he stressed, and pointed at Melissa with one finger. "Like, big time," he added. He walked off down the alley in search of the cat, back turned to the secretary and entirely unaware of any potential dangers that awaited him ahead...
Stupid cat?? Cats aren't stupid! They are the most intelligent little creatures and much smarter than- stupid dogs! Stupid dogs don't get anything. She Doesn't owe them anything, she owns them.
Her heals somehow make zero noise as she checks around the corner and goes right up behind Ted. She watches him for just a moment. Poor mutt doesn't know what's coming to him.
Melissa pulls out her-ding ding ding, bedazzled taser and shoves it to his back. Holding it until he's on the ground.

Hii Charlotte!! Couldn't help but peep at your profile and see you like cats? Me too!! I've seen you with that cat sweater sometimes but I wasn't sure if it was just for fashion aha, do you have a favorite type?
@meow4melissa
Melissa! What are the odds that we find each other here? I mean, really, what are the chances of two people from the same office being able to see one another on the internet!
I really wouldn't say I have a favorite type, personally. If pressed, I think I may have had some kind of tabby growing up, though. Like the one on the very sweater you mentioned!
But really, in truth, I do believe all of them are just the sweetest things! If Sam weren't allergic, oh, I'd go right down to the animal shelter and adopt the first few kitties I'd see, believe me!
The odds are slim I know! I'm the same with the cats though. They're all just so cute I could never decide on a favorite! I've always irked that sweater though, maybe you'd happen to know where you got it?
That's so sad you can't adopt one though :( I go volunteer at the shelter every once in a while and they really are so sweet. I personally only have one cat at the moment though. I'd get another if it weren't for my dog. He likes myn well enough but it was a hard adjustment.. Maybe you could volunteer with me sometime though!
I think it was a gift, to tell you the truth. Or, at least, I've had it for as long as as I can remember. I'd be happy to help you look for something similar, though! I think it would be just swell if the pair of us were to become friends outside the office, you know?
On that note, I love the idea of volunteering with you! I'll have to talk it over with my husband, of course, but I'd be happy to! I'd love to meet your own pets some day, as well!
Oh well looking around at some stores could be fun!! I'd like to be friends too :) I don't really talk to people from work.
Also I don't know if he'd want to go considering the whole allergic to cats thing? But I'm sure my pets would love to meet you! Eventually.. they're pretty skittish if I can be honest. Takes a while before I can't really introduce them to people, but I'd love to hang out soon!
Well, luckily for both of us, that's about to change! Would you like to go window shopping at Lakeside one of these days? I haven't been to the mall since I was a teenager, and I think it would be awfully swell if the pair of us were to go window shopping for a bit!
Oh, I know that! I just meant I'd have to clear my schedule, and go over what I'd say, and...it's a whole song and dance! But never mind that.
I'll be happy to wait for when they're ready! I'm sure they're just lovely!
Ooh yeah! I haven't been to the mall in forever; not since this one store I liked went out of business.. window shopping sounds fun though! I really should be free whenever so just tell me whenever you clear you schedule: :DD
Oh! And thanks for being so understanding of my silly little animals.
Of course! Have a lovely day, Melissa. I'll see you at work, alright?
Of course! You too!! See ya :D
