I got mine after having braces when I was 14, and my orthodontist said that I should “wear it every night until you’re 30, because at that point your future husband won’t care about you having wonky teeth,” and I’m still not sure if that means I should continue wearing it past 30 or not.
I do remember finding the statement gross and confusing at the time, because a) who says I’ll be married when I’m 30, b) who says I’ll be married to a man, c) why would I be making medical decisions based on a nonexistent husband, and d) who says that to a 14 year old?
