Now a new game to present here ! The legend of Heroes : Trails of Cold Steel !
I played this game before, and I can say I loved it ! I bought it out of curiosity, seeing it was from the same society that the Ys series came from, Nihon Falcom. The graphics are similar to Ys VIII : Lacrimosa of Dana (my first Ys game, also bought out of curiosity in a gaming shop, it seemed so interesting, and I was indeed mesmerized !)
And I was not disappointed !
First, the home screen ! Here are the two "main characters" of this game, even if there are many more as we learn after ! And the cool fact is that the home screen develops more and more as the game introduces properly the other main characters !
In this story, we follow the young and kind Rean Schwarser to his new school, Thors Military Academy ! As the name might suggest you, yes, it IS a military school ! He wears a red uniform, but not many new students wear one, most of them are in green uniforms and some in a white uniform !
We later learn that the commoners of the school wear the green one, and the nobles, the white one ! As for the red ones... it is quite a mystery at the start of the game !
We arrive at Trista, the main city of this game ! A beautiful place with blooming trees that welcomes the students right off the Station where most of them came from !
After arriving to the Academy and participating to an introductoring ceremony in the gymnasium, the students are dispatched to their classes, we realise that the red students are clueless to what happened, as they weren't given any direction to what happens after the ceremony. Their home teacher, Sara Valestein, tells them to follow her, and they reached the Abandonned School House, close to the Academy.
After a quick introduction between some of the students, Sara reveals that the nine of them are a mixed pack between commoners and nobles, a first in the Erebonian Empire, named Class VII. This, of course, outrages one of the commoners Machias Regnitz, who cannot even think about associating with nobles. He and a noble student, Jusis Albarea, of the House Albarea, one of the 4 Great Houses in Erebonia, get into a talking fight, before being interrupted by their instructor. She surprises them by pushing a hidden button that releases them in the underground of the schoolhouse.
They learn that they have to use the ARCUS unit in order to help them using Artes, magic abilities, and they have to fight their way up again. They separate into several groups, and after going through the underground, they face a Gargoil of Stone that turned into a huge monster. Forced to all work together, despite some disagreements, they manage to defeat the beast and then meet again with Instructor Sara, who congratulates them.
She then tells them that they have the choice of remaining in this special class, or to drop it and join one of the other classes, with the commoners or the nobles according to their status. Rean is the first to choose to stay in Class VII, ready to fight everything that comes his way. His little speech inspires the other students, as they join him too, one after the other, and some have quite inspirational things to say, such as Alisa R. and Jusis !
And there it goes ! Class VII is formed, and they have each individual personnalities that will complement each other well in the future ! The Prologue ends here and the opening sequence plays !
