Air Plants (Tillandsias) get their nutrition thru their leaves only. The root is only an appendage, i.e. a hand to hold onto the trees in which they grow. If the root gets wet consistently it will die from "Root Rot". Therefore NEVER SOAK an Air Plant as it will kill the plant. The Watering Cycle is every 2 weeks. (The exception to this rule are Xerographicas and Tectorums. Water once a week.) Using your fingers as a gauge, always place your fingers around the Root to cover it. If your fingers get wet, you have gotten the Root wet. Water the leaves only! Water the leaves by running under the faucet or dip the leaves into a container of water and swirl just long enough to turn them green. (No more then 5-10 seconds). Shake the excess water off and dab the Root dry with a towel. Air Plants shed their leaves just like we shed hair. If the lower leaves look a little raggity, pluck them off and trim the brown tips on the healthy leaves. This stimulates growth and also keeps your plants looking pristine.
