"At the troll court" by Ink Yami
Six seasons and a movie please
Finished “The Shocking Experiments of Miss Mary Bennet” this morning and it completely broke me 👍
The Flora Britannica chapter especially made me cry like a baby, to the point that my roommate came to make sure I was okay
I had very mixed feelings about Harry the whole book that matched with Mary’s, as I was also trying to marry (pun intended) the warm and kind man Mary remembers with someone who would gift her a book like Quindley’s— something Mary uses throughout the story to beat herself down, suppress and punish herself. The revelation that he never intended her to read it (or at least not seriously) paired with the obvious love in the intricately hand crafted volume that so fluently spoke Mary’s language just made me cry right along with her as she mourned everything she’d never had and how horrible so many of her years to that point had been. Just the obvious understanding and acceptance paired with the strong and obvious familial love present got to me so much.
Thank you so much for this book, I will always treasure it.
Thank you so much! I wrote most of that chapter with the real Flora Britannica at my elbow. I changed its origins but it's real and beautiful and if you ever go to the Linnean Society in London they may let you see it.

Isa saying what Langdon and Santos bring out in each other in the hallway scene… it’s all about how Santos brings out an angry man in Langdon and Langdon brings out a scared child in Santos. Hello I’m gonna be sick
reminds me of this tweet
every new perspective i see on that scene makes me feel ill </3
I am very obsessed with this plotline. I think the writing on this show has really leveled up this year because they're fully leaning into the way you can be a great friend/boss/coworker to some people and a terrible one to others. Dr. King isn't wrong to find Langdon delightful, and Dr. Santos isn't wrong to find him infuriating.
What Robby did to Santos by bringing Langdon back is pretty unconscionable. Langdon used his authority over her to undermine her and try to get her fired on her first day, so she wouldn't reveal his abuse of his position. Now a year later he's right back in a position of power over her. It's vile. But... was Robby wrong? Langdon is a great doctor and the ER is always understaffed. Even if he drives Santos away, the sheer volume of lives saved may still favor bringing him back. Unless Santos snaps and strangles Robby and Langdon with her bare hands. Which she would be entirely justified in doing.
i love shipping magazines and i especially love them when they sound like they were written by a mildly aggravated cargo ship
luke: how will we manage to get off tatooine and go to alderaan?!
the humble millennium falcon:
Seeing a lot of people disappointed with The Other Bennet Sister for misunderstanding Mary's character, and so I'm going to throw out a recommendation for a retelling I really enjoyed that gave Mary the spotlight and deepened her character while also understanding she's really a bit of a snob xD
(And that Mr. Bennet's not the best dad)
@melindataub 's "The Shocking Expirements of Miss Mary Bennet"
It's got Mary being her canonical snobby self, while explaining why she feels so and giving her some pretty darn good character growth. It's got Mad Science, it's got Queer Love, it's got Humor and Horror and Horror based on Humors.
And it has an equally fun stand-alone prequel about Lydia!
It's got Lydia being her silly self while also explaining why she's that way with //Excellent// character growth. It's got Witchcraft, it's got Sisterhood, it's got Demons, it's got Social Commentary, it's got Kitty being a literal Cat who is Lydia's familiar in the guise of a girl.
IT DOESNT MAKE THE OTHER BENNET SISTERS LOOK BAD TO MAKE LYDIA LOOK GOOD. (Same with the Mary book!)
Anywho, I thoroughly enjoyed both and highly recommend
Thank you!! I haven't seen The Other Bennet Sister so I can't comment on their take, but I definitely worked hard to present a version of Mary Bennet that doesn't sand off her rough edges. She is not a perfect character! She is an awkward weirdo doing her best but also learning the wrong lessons, blaming the wrong people, and doing the wrong things - just like all the other Bennet sisters.
"Not at all pretty and very prim, unlike a girl of twelve… whimsical and affected," is how one relative described a particularly irritating twelve-year-old young lady in regency England. The annoying young lady is, of course, Jane Austen. I've always suspected that Jane put a lot of her younger self into Mary Bennet.
As something of an awkward weirdo myself, I have a lot of sympathy for Mary. She deserves a chance to grow out of her more irritating traits. Most teenagers do.
"The Werewolf" (Der Wärwolf), 1911.
by Josef von Divéky.
I really enjoy how upsetting early 20th century children's book illustrations are. Why is the child more grotesque than the monster? Why does the "werewolf" look more like some sort of marsupial or sloth? Five stars.

From the book 'All the Way to Fairyland' (1898), written by Evelyn Sharp and illustrated by Mabel Dearmer.
Oh for a truly world class psychiatrist....
Who even says something like "They all have a Jimmy Olsen face, exactly like mine"
Rather than "They all look like me" It makes it sounds like Jimmy only looks like Jimmy because he has "a Jimmy Olsen" face too, and maybe he's someone else underneath?
Is this Dick Grayson impersonating him and just finding that it's a day like any other for Jimmy: eg completely bonkers? Are they all sourcing face masks from some ur-Jimmy who is perhaps unaware of the cult that seems to have sprung up?
I see what you mean about possibly needing a psychiatrist.
Jimmy, waking up in the morning: Time to wash and shave my Jimmy Olsen Face!
Lucy Lane: ........
for the millionth time please god phrase that in a less unnerving manner
