Things like this happen all the time. And the chances are high that this wasn't the first time he abused her. To the pastors that I follow: How many women in your congregation are sitting your pew on Sunday with a smile on their face, sitting next to a man who is about to kill her, while we ignore the signs? Domestic violence doesn't just "happen" out of nowhere. There are signs that we as pastors must learn to recognize. AND when we recognize them, we must not be afraid to act. I don't care if the guy is a major giver in your church, or if they are well-liked by the membership. We have a charge as shepherds to protect our sheep from the wolves. Any man who lays his hands on a woman to abuse her or take advantage of her needs to be handled as a wolf. There's no negotiating with a wolf. There's no "laying hands" on a wolf. The threat needs to be neutralized and removed from ever being able to harm anybody else ever. Remember that. RIP to our Bison Sister. Gone too soon.

How I'm spending the morning of my birthday. Trying to build a Black agenda for the South Suburban area of Chicago. Long overdue and often overlooked. 16.4 million people in suburban areas live in a silent poverty, including Thornton Township (particularly Harvey, Markham, Riverdale, and Dolton). My birthday wish is for the Kingdom of Heaven to come to EARTH! We need your power to bring Justice and Equity to our cities.
