(Admittedly after years on this site I have no idea how people make these pretty so bear with me):
Hello! Call me Mel or Melody
I’m a queer neurodivergent person in my 20s. They/it/any neos
This is my space to say whatever whenever, but I’m mainly using it to yap about anime and manga because I’m a dork. More talking about what you can expect from my corner of the internet under the cut
I’m bad at starting conversations but my askbox and dms are always open
I do writing commissions, at $1/100 words. I also write fanfiction and can be found on ao3 under the user MelancholyPills. However, my fic writing has slowed down due to focusing more on my original work
I might occasionally post or reblog things related to cnc/non-con kink, but these will be infrequent and tagged appropriately. Anything I post dealing with SA in a more serious manner will also be tagged appropriately
I talk about my trauma sometimes (in certain moods a lot of the time) so uh. Heads up
Personal tags I use (except I don’t know how to make them clickable):
#yapping : for general spur of the moment thoughts
#mel watches anime : for liveblogging and talking about any animation (I’m using anime as the default bc it’s most of what I watch) I’m watching for the first time
#mel reads manga : for liveblogging and talking about any manga I’m reading for the first time
#mel plays video games : for liveblogging and talking about video games I’m playing for the first time (this one isn’t used as much bc I’m broke)

you can gain a reputation for being good with money by just being kind of boring. i don't like alcohol i don't like weed i don't go on dates i don't travel i don't try new food and ive been playing the same video games for 5 years. and my savings? heh. well i just bought a new jacket #my jacket.
So I've seen the post going around that's kind of like "kids should be able to read whatever they want and not have their choices censored by adults" and I largely agree with one caveat which is that children need to be able to opt in. I remember being 12 and sneaking some dirty books, and being interested and excited to read a book with something more sexy in it, and no one died, and everything was fine, and I was not forever scarred. However I do remember being shown a a horror film at seven by a babysitter and not being able to sleep for three weeks, and if I'd known how scary the movie was I wouldn't have wanted to watch it.
Kids can usually know what they can handle. Kids cover their eyes at scary points in films, kids read past stuff they aren't ready for. But it is good to be clear like "Oh that book might have some scary parts you might not like, are you sure you want to get that one?" Or "Oh this book has some grown up things in them that you might have a hard time understanding, I want to check that your okay with that." Like give kids the warnings and options and they will probably make a safe and informed decision. It doesn't have to be either or.
I also think kids should be allowed to be wrong about what they can handle without getting in trouble for it. They should be able to go to the adults in their life and ask for help processing what they saw or read without fear of judgement or punishment.

TIL The Double Empathy Problem theory suggests social difficulties experienced by autistic people when interacting with non-autistic people are due to reciprocal differences, not an inherent deficiency, most autistic people are able to display good social reciprocity with most other autistic people
okay but the BEST part of the first study discussed (conducted by an autistic person!) Is that it shows that while easy, calm, mutual communication and social interaction is often more natural between two autistic people than it is between an autistic person and a non-autistic person, it is ALSO like this when an autistic person encounters a non-autistic person who imitates the autistic individual’s behaviours- neurotypical parents copying autistic children’s play, for example, apparently receive more positive engagement from their child- which is SERIOUSLY FUCKING IMPORTANT and VERY VERY GOOD because it is, once again, scientific evidence that bullshit like aversion therapy and enforced conformance and FUCKING “quiet hands” aren’t “”“”“solutions to the autism problem”“”“” and that “”“”“problems”“”“ with autism don’t stem from BEING autistic, but rather, from how NON AUSTISTIC PEOPLE TREAT AUTISTIC PEOPLE.
IE, once again, there is nothing bad or wrong about being autistic

If you are in WASHINGTON this is not yet law, this initiative will be on the ballot Nov 3 THIS YEAR. VOTE NO. You have the ability to prevent this from becoming law.
To all trans men on this site, im gonna put you onto something. If you are in need of a binder but have unsupportive parents or are closeted, if you have a fondness for the ocean, or if youre bored with the normal colors of binder available, go to Waterlust and get a top
As you can see above, theyre all patterned like marine life, but theyre also reversible! One side has the pattern, the other is solid color, and they're all fun colors like blues and reds and greens, but some like the whale and tiger shark ones are more subtle grays and blacks. I have the whale shark one and the spongebob one (which was a limited run), and theyre both very well designed and printed. My spongebob one has served me for roughly four years and it hasn't worn at all.
What really matters? The binding power, and these things are great. I'm a triple D cup and with a medium I look like I have subtle pecs. They're also much less compressive than other binders due to their materials (which are mostly recycled!), so you can wear them for longer without getting sore. When I did more intensive theater and band performances, I could still act, dance, and play bari sax without getting winded or hurting myself. They're also swim tops, and I've scuba dived in these as well comfortably.
If that wasn't all, proceeds from each purchase are donated towards marine conservation and education initiatives! Purchasing shark printed ones specifically donate to shark studies and conservation orgs, parrotfish and coral prints support coral restoration initiatives, and so on. The high price tag is for a good reason.
Overall, if you're looking for an all around good binder, one that matches your whimsey and supports a good cause, Waterlust is the place to go.
i’ve had flat chest dysphoria for ages now. ages. some lifesaver on ig reels came in with some trans tips and one of them was to get some padded bralettes to emphasise the chest, and she was right, these are genuinely amazing. i’ll be so real i didn’t wanna take it off 😪
