Author’s note: Hi! This is the first oneshot I’ve written in probably like 5+ years, so I hope it’s okay and apologies if I’ve failed to include any standard info or if anyone is OOC. I’ve been desperate for some more pure fluff fics these days and this purple rabbit has been stuck in my head for weeks. Enjoy!

It was an unremarkable morning in the circus. You woke up that morning to Caine floating directly above your bed, causing you to nearly abstract on the spot. He said he was observing ‘sleep patterns’ for ‘research purposes’. After chewing him out, you huffed and left your room, going out to see a few of the others had already gathered in the main area.

Ragatha and Gangle were chatting with a smile while Kinger stood beside Ragatha quietly, listening. He had been wearing the bucket on his head ever since everything with Caine had gone down, and as of yet no one had come up with a better solution as to providing him with portable darkness, so to speak.

When Ragatha spots you, she smiles.

“Good morning, (Y/N)! Did you sleep okay?”

“I did, until I woke up to a set of floating teeth in my face,”You mutter, dragging a hand down your face.

Gangle chimes in. “I’ve been a-asking him to stop doing that…”

You chat casually with them as the others slowly begin to trickle in. Pomni greets everyone with a small smile, Zooble casually saunters up to Gangle’s side, and last to the party, Jax, walks up to you with familiar feigned nonchalance.

“Hey there, (Y/N). You’ve got the look of someone who woke up to Caine’s pearly whites this morning,” She says with a wide smile.

“Seriously, has he been doing this to everyone?” You ask, eyebrows furrowing.

“Cheer up, it’s a good look for you,”Jax purrs, resting her elbow on your head.

Suddenly, Caine’s voice echoes down the hallways.

“Hello, my little cherubs!” He chirps as he appears in front of you all, “What have you all decided on doing this beautiful digital morning?”

You all look amongst each other, and shrug.

“Guess we hadn’t really thought about it yet,” You say, finally shoving Jax’s elbow off of you.

“I vote for nothing,” Zooble says, “Gangle’s showing me the animation she’s been working on,” They take Gangle’s hand in theirs, giving her a fond look and then heading off towards her room.

“Okay! That’s two votes for nothing,” Caine announces.

Ragatha is next to speak up: “Actually, Kinger and I were hoping we could hang out in that field today? The one with the butterflies.” She says, looking over at Kinger with a warm smile.

“Yes, of course! Butterflies, bugs, the whole shebang! Off you go!” Caine says, conjuring a portal.

That leaves, Jax, Pomni, and yourself. You’re about to speak, when:

“Well, I’m going to the café. I’m starving,” Jax says with a lazy grin, shoving her hands in her overall pockets as she begins walking off. “You can join, if you want.” She adds on, softer, from behind her shoulder.

You smile and roll your eyes, turning to Pomni.

“What about you, Pomni? Got any plans for the day?”

“Well actually, I asked Caine if he could show me some of the adventures he scrapped from before. I thought it might actually be fun,” she says, fidgeting with her hands absentmindedly, “You’re free to come along if you want, but I’ve got a feeling a certain rabbit is waiting for you.”

She has a knowing smile on her face. You return it, letting out an exaggerated sigh.

“I suppose I do. You better tell me if you find anything cool, though,”

“You got it,” she says with a wink, shooting a finger gun at you before walking off with Caine, who’s already talking her ear off about the world building of the place they’re about to visit.

You let out a content sigh before turning around and finally making your way to the café. Jax is sitting at the counter on one of the diner stools, her black undershirt sliding off her shoulder. Her cheek is propped up on her fist as she draws absent shapes into the counter with her gloved finger. You smile as you approach, sliding onto the stool beside her.

“Waiting for someone?” You tease, leaning down to catch her eye. “I thought you were starving.”

She turns to you, looking wholly unimpressed. Her attempt at a pout is unfortunately rendered totally ineffective by the way her fist is smushing her cheek.

“I am. But someone, who I will not be naming because I am the pinnacle of kindness now, would never let me hear the end of it if I went and made food without them.”

You can’t help the smile that tugs at your features. “I have no idea who you’re talking about, but I’m sure they’d appreciate the sentiment.” you say, mirroring her pose by resting your cheek in your hand.

Jax scoffs and rolls her eyes, getting up and stretching before walking behind the counter.

“Whatever,” She bends down, sifting through random objects and ingredients, “Let’s see if there’s anything that actually passes for food in he—“ Jax’s sentence is cut off by a shriek, followed by her jumping back a foot and landing on the ground.

You shoot up from the stool, eyes widening in surprise.

“Jax, what is it?” You question, a hint of concern in your voice.

You begin walking around the counter when Jax waves you off frantically, her now crooked bow twitching with her ear.

“No, no, it’s fine. It’s just—there was a spider and I was startled is all, I’ll deal with it—“

Her voice dies as you tilt your head down, only to see head of corn sitting on the shelf unassumingly. You both pause for a second, a brief silence falling over you. You turn back to Jax—a small, amused yet understanding smile on your face.

“This what spooked you, bunny?” You ask gently.

Her eyes are blown wide, darting from the corn to your face and back to the corn again. She nods silently. You huff softly, picking it up from where it sits motionless on the shelf. The action makes Jax startle again, scooting back a few inches more.

“Don’t worry, I’ll get rid of this horrid thing for you.” You say with a teasing lilt, walking back around the counter to toss it into the nearby trash can.

“…shut up,” She finally mutters out, getting to her feet and readjusting the bow on her head. “I told you, the little kernels, they just—it’s freaky, alright?”

She huffs indignantly as you walk back over to her. You give her a soft smile as you lace your fingers with hers. She’s still avoiding your gaze, but you feel her hands tighten around yours almost imperceptibly.

“Alright, alright. How ‘bout I make the food this time, okay?” You offer, voice still low and unashamedly fond.

“…Yeah,” Jax says, her eyes finally finding yours, “I’d like that.”
