“Eunhan-Ah?!” Soon-yi yelled from the side of the truck that held all of their belongings.
Standing in front of the rickety barn that she heard whimpering from the inside she could feel her heart breaking and pulling her to go help what resided in there. Hearing her sisters shouts Eunhan almost jumped out of her skin and inhaled a deep breath feeling the normal shortness of breath reside in Eunhan lungs. Turning around Eunhan looked at her sister who was exhausted from carrying the stuff into the house that they’ve recently bought.
Being the quiet twins they were, they only found comfort in talking to each other and study with one another, and so she speed walked to her sister’s location and grabbed the box that her younger twin was having trouble carrying. Lifting the box with ease she gave her sister a reassuring smile silently telling her that she’d get the heavy ones. Turning around to walk into the house she bumped into a man’s chest making her stumble backwards and gasp from the sudden contact. Looking up to see who the man was she found it to be Ji-tae and it made her mentally scowl in distaste but bowing nonetheless and muttering a small sorry and sped walked into the house. Taking all the boxes into the house she sighed in content and picked up her box that had all of her own personal belongings.
Going into her room that was on the second floor she dropped the box and sat on her comforter that was placed on the floor, after her mom swept the floor clean of dust. She pulled the box close to her and grabbed out her drawing book and opened it to the next blank page and smiled to herself. Looking outside her window she saw the woods and decided to capture it in a drawing and the mysterious aura that was given off to anyone who looked in at it.
Time lapsed and it was night time and it was too dark for Eunhan to capture the scenery that day. Deciding to finish up tomorrow she heard her mom call her and Soon-yi from the bottom of the stairs. Standing up and walking down the stairs she saw the placement of the dinner table filled with delicious food and the friendly neighbors who helped unpack earlier that day. Sitting down next to Soon-Yi she gave her a small smile and she returned it back and it looked as if they were looking into the mirror. Picking up the chopsticks her mom announced to dig in and the neighbors messily dug into the food that their mother nicely prepared. Keeping on a straight face the twins stared at them judgingly. Reaching for the kimchee Eunhan’s chopsticks were rudely pushed aside. Putting down the chopsticks Eunhan and Soon-yi sat quiet and watched the food get devoured and the adults make conversation.
“Sweetie can I have some more soup?” One of the neighbors asked Eunhan and she nodded standing up grabbing the bowl from him and Soon-yi followed. Going into the kitchen Eunhan scooped some of the soup from the pot and poured it in the bowl with shaky hands. Soon-yi understanding the weakness in her sister’s arm from the lack of oxygen and exhaustion she took over and Eunhan scooted over so her sister can finish the task.
“What’s wrong with them, why are they so quiet?” The women neighbor asked Eunhan’s and Soon-yi’s mother.
Looking up to the neighbor trying to stay calm and strong willed, Eunhan’s and Soon-yi’s mother smiled and answered quietly.
“They’re twins so they’re very close and quiet. They have a lung defect like I mentioned earlier, so they only trust each other to talk more fluently with. They weren’t always this quiet, it was just after their father’s passing till they turned into the people they are today. They study with each other and all of that good stuff” Eunhan’s and Soon-yi’s mother explained briefly.
Seeing the twins returning and Eunhan pale from the lack of oxygen Eunhan whispered to her mother that she’s fine after the scared and worried full look that was aimed towards them. Soon-yi gave the man his soup the silence resided in the household and the pig eating continued.
Not being able to breath properly Eunhan excused herself and walked out to the front of the house and sat on the porch breathing in slowly like how the doctors advised.
“Eunhan-ah, we’re going to go to bed now” her mom announced not realising that the neighbors already left and everything was cleaned up.
“Okay, i’m going to stay out here for a little while” She told her mom.
“Don’t stay out too long, okay?”
“Yup” She whispered to herself knowing her mother already understood.
Seeing the lights go off with the exception of Soon-yi’s night light, Eunhan breathed in the fresh air but jumped when she heard a chain like noise coming from the barn, making her stand up and make her way into the old rustic building. Opening the door warily she covered her nose from the smell that was stained in the inside. Seeing a heavily locked door on the other side of the building, she walked in front of it and started unlocking it but hearing the chain and scratching noises again. Unlocking the last lock she opened the door and saw a pair of glowing eyes until she was pushed to the floor as the creature made it’s escape. Yelping not too loud so she won’t wake up her family she ran back into the house and sprinted to her room and covered herself in the comforter. Soon falling asleep her breathing turned steady not knowing that a certain wolf boy was watching her in curiosity from the slightly open window. Shaking his head he walked off to the side of the barn in between some plywood and fell asleep.
