Something grief has taught me

Is that life can't be so organized

Put into simple boxes

Clean and perfect

It's in the mess

That you are reminded

Just how human you are

And the pile of clothes on the floor

Shows that you were there

It's proof of the living

I've learned to slow down

Not be so quick to fix my mess

Sometimes it's ok to sit for a while

Because it's a reminder

To be human and that

You don't need to rush

The world is meant to be lived

In the moment

Especially the quiet ones

Where the peace

Is being present

In your own body

And it reminds you

That you are just one

Part of the earth

And the ecosystem

That connects us all

So while it hurts deep

This broken open heart

You've taught me

How to love myself
