“ the way you shushed me was quite rude ”
@medicusmori
Artemy doesn’t even blink, just keeps walking. Because it’s not rude to have a one-sided conversation, without listening to anyone else, somehow? If the Bachelor ever met himself, he wouldn’t like his own company. It’s not Artemy’s fault that nobody taught the bachelor manners in the big city. Or maybe he thinks his small, quaint town doesn’t deserve them.
He picks up the pace. He was stupid to think that he could talk to Dankovsky about... anything, really.
“If your words are the only ones that matter, then — I leave you in their company.”
His brows furrowed, dark eyes following Artemy as he begins to storm off, and so the Bachelor is compelled to follow. He’s given a moment of quiet to think back on where things had gone awry in the conversation, where he had made an ass of himself once again.
Dankovsky opens his mouth to speak, quickly cut off with the Haruspex’s harsh reply, and he huffs out a breath as his teeth click shut. He hurries along, passing the other man by only to stop directly in his way.
“You asked for my opinion and I gave it to you, Burakh. It’s not my fault that your solution to this problem sounds absolutely insane.”
“What’s insane is your suggestion of leaving everyone sick to die! We are doctors! What the fuck are you talking about!” He was more sad than angry this time. “And still I try to reason with you, and still you blow me off!”
“We don’t know how it spreads. We know about it going from person to person, but how does it focus on districts? They all have different borders, populations, infraestructures, and limits. Did you ever think about that? That makes no sense either, disease doesn’t read road signs, but it’s real all the same.” Artemy may as well be rolling his eyes: To his this seems to be the most normal thing in the world.
“Either tell me something new, or get out of my way.”
"This is a disease with a 100% mortality rate. Yes, we're doctors, but part of our job is knowing when we're doing more harm than good in keeping a patient alive. This damned town is festering like a wound that's gone unchecked! You're a surgeon; Clearly you can see where an amputation is needed, but you're trying to save the wrong part!"
The Bachelor huffed out in exasperation. "Do you think I haven't been trying to figure that out, Burakh? The pest is unlike anything either of us have ever seen, much less dealt with, and we have been given such a short length of time to find answers. It cannot survive without a living, specifically human host, as animals have been, so far, perfectly immune to it." Animals such as the rats that seem to have a vendetta against Dankovsky personally.
"But even if the sand pest can be carried on an animal rather than in it.. Not to mention it seems to be in the air as soot-like particles, on the walls and other surfaces.." He trailed off, running a gloved hand through his hair.
"The symptoms are numerous, it spreads easily and quickly and yet confines itself to one section at a time, almost as if it had the capacity to think and choose. It's somehow predictable and contradictory and at this rate I am more than willing to accept this as just another side-effect of living in this wretched backwoods place! Nothing here makes any damn sense anyway!"
