“ — i mean, of course i love the second mamma mia movie. do i think it captured the same magic as the first one? i mean, no. obviously not. you can’t just replace meryl streep with cher and expect me to feel the same type of — ” andy’s interjection in the great mamma mia vs mamma mia 2: here we go again debate ( which had been taking place for the better part of an hour, just as they’d departed lawrenceville, nj ) had been rudely interrupted by the screeching of brakes. not just theirs, but their fellow travelers as well. all had stopped, still as sentinels. the foursome stepped out of the car, just as the center of bridge they were beginning to cross shattered and crumbled into the delaware. andy ran to precipice, as a serpentine tail flicked out of the water. “ wait – what the fuck! did you guys see that? ”

 in the middle of constructing her counterargument, divika quickly pushed the discussion to the back of her mind to focus on the traffic jam in front of their car.  given their distance from the bermuda triangle, the creatures of the abyss shouldn’t be surfacing so far north of their domain. “a sea monster in the delaware river?” she questioned aloud in acknowledgement of the absurdity of the situation.

regardless, containment of the threat needed to be their top priority as their instructors had trained them. “lena, how do you want to start the evacuation for the mortals?” she asked her fellow greek, noting the increasing damage to the support beams of the suspension bridge. “lunara, do your shadows work underwater?” she asked, attempting to the follow the monster’s trail. “and andy, can you do anything to stabilize the foundation right now?” her knowledge of what the romans were capable of was limited to what she seen presented in capture the flag, but right now any help would have to suffice with the limited time the team had to act.

Leave it to a monster to ruin a riveting conversation. Divika was right, what was a sea monster doing so far north? She glanced over at Andy, knowing that her friend didn’t use her powers very often. She trusted her to do the right thing. “They do.” Lunara answered, focusing her eyesight on the dark shadows under the water. Based on what she could see from the shape, this creature was native to the Bermuda Triangle. Discordia herself had led her one summer where Lunara learned of the heavy magic used there. She could sense it now from the creature. “If anyone starts doing or feeling weird, speak up. I’ll reverse the inducement.”

Her shadow ropes offered no physical sensation that could be felt underwater. The tendrils reached the monster loosely, blending in with the water. One word and she would have the creature bound and immobile. But first, the civilians evacuation.

TRUTH BE TOLD, lena had been on the verge of stopping the car herself. there was a second mamma mia movie?! the first one had felt revolutionary to her, and lena had felt inclined to ask that they watched it right this instant. that would have to wait, much to her frustration ⸺ because of course there was a monster in the river! “ civilians, yep. ” horrible task for lena, who only recently started feeling like talking to other human beings again, but she wasn’t about to start complaining when there was a giant ... whale? goldfish? koi? whatever that thing was. 

her fingers twisted in the air, and the magic answered with a well - known ease, following her commands to create a safe haven out of piled up cars. she hoped their insurance covered ancient sea monsters. a bit of manipulated mist and some compulsion magic followed, and soon civilians were moving to the hastily built shelter ⸺ leaving lena somewhat out of breath and light headed, but with the thrill of magic thrumming in her veins. “ well, that’s done. i’ll try to refrain from any puns about going fishing but, er, what are we going to do about ... that? ” lena pointed at the water, waiting for more orders. she wasn’t exactly the most proficient at plans, but knew the romans likely were with all their training, and wasn’t about to ruin that with the age old greek technique of improvisation. 

APPARENTLY, enchanting mice to help you pack supplies was considered “ unethical ” and “ animal labor ” ⸺ but lena was off the opinion that chiron, as a half - horse, was somewhat biased on the matter. despite her huffing about it, she still sent her little helpers off ( with some snacks as a reward, let it be known lena paid them a fair wage ) and finished the work herself, complaining every minute. the weather was nice out today, and after so many years stuck inside the lotus casino, lena found herself unable to resist luxuriating for hours in every beam or patch of sunlight she could possibly find. 

now, her work was done ⸺ and lena was ready to enjoy the last remaining hours of light. in a dramatic gesture, she dropped herself down on the grass like a sack of spuds & closed her eyes, before realizing that might attract others to see if she was alright. not much later she felt a shadow falling over her, and lena had to resist letting out a frustrated sigh. “ this patch of grass is occupied, ” she spoke, though not as unkindly as was common for her. musing on, lena was mostly just grumbling to herself by this point, forgetting about the shadow hovering above. “ i’ve had a very long day of packing behind me. with all these uber applications, you’d think they’d make one for that as well. ”

" describe your day-to-day routine "

lena was not one to easily admit her day - to - day was boring. “ oh, uhm -- i suppose i have a very ... simple life. ” moving away from camp halfblood to find her way in the outside world had been a difficult choice, but one that felt necessary. she still spent most summers visiting, but living in new york, a center of activity and innovation ( to lena, at least ), it helped her reacquaint to the world around her. she’d purchased a small appartement from the money she’d scammed from a casino or two ( at least her time in the lotus was good for something, those housing prices were appaling! ) before chiron warned her that was unethical. she got a job in a new age-y type store ( no one had to know about her actual magic ) that paid the bills. she was just moving through life, one day at a time. maybe, at some point, she’d consider college -- but there were just too many opportunities for her to fail at that. “ i polish a lot of crystals at work, pick up some dinner, fight a monster or two... the usual. ”

“ describe what you feel more grateful for ”

“ the whole internet and computers thing has been really great, ” she shrugged. it wasn’t a lie, just a very boring answer, but that was typical for lena. “ health care is a lot better. expensive though -- everything is so expensive now. ” lena had been lucky in a strange way, she was only fourteen when she was put in the lotus casino -- and had only flashes of memories and deeply buried instincts from her past. catching up was easier when she had so little to compare it to, she simply started everything anew. “ oh! uber eats, so wonderful -- i don’t even have to leave my house to go out to dinner! ”
