       Power had always attracted Marc Facilier, but it had never affected him quite this much. He was thoroughly mad for the strange man, invested in discovering more about him. It was unclear to the Southerner in what fashion the obsession had manifested, but he would prefer not to think about it too much.

They'd developed quite the partnership, working in very close quarters, sharing secrets, tips, information, and power. As Marc knew more, he craved it even further, wanting needing to learn more. He longed for that sort of power, to be able to move so freely.

Luxord's shadows did not seem to control him as they controlled Facilier, and for that he was envious. Eventually, it poured from his lips in a drunken urge, staring hard at the blond. "Make me your kind. I want the power you have. I have to have it." And then, unbidden, more words came.

         The woman was a fascination, and truly the guiltiest of pleasures. She was sharp witted, beautiful, and just as power-hungry as he was. The only drawback that Marc could find was her inability to be twisted by his whims. It frustrated him endlessly, but still he continued to try.

He was able to give her anything she asked for, except the sea, which it seemed was her only real desire. And for this, she rejected him time after time, battling his wits with her own expert precision. 

"We could rule the world together. Why do you need the sea so badly, when you could have the land?” He asked of her one day. She looked at him carefully, as though sizing him up, before she deigned a reply.

"I won’t give up on my dreams. If I back down now, all this work is fruitless." He understood her in that way, and though he still wished she’d let it go, these words gave him cause to drop the subject.
