there are two retinal circulations, both derived from the ophthalmic artery:

the central retinal vessels, which penetrate from the inner surface of the retina to the outer plexiform layer and can be observed with an ophthalmoscope; and

the choriocapillaris, a fenestrated network of capillaries from the posterior ciliary arteries that supply the outer layer of the retina

central retinal circulation is prone to atherosclerosis and diabetic retinopathy while the choriocapillaris is prone to neovasculation, contributing to age-related macular degeneration
