Calling all artists! Sign-ups are still going on, so take a gander at the stories still available and slam that sign up button

I understand from all the messages sent to me that there is a lot of gossip in regards to the decision from the admin team to permaban an author/artist from the MEBB. They can think whatever they want, and so can you.

The truth is that X was not banned from the MEBB because of something they said on Tumblr. That is their version of events, and they are absolutely entitled to their own narrative.

I am here to say that we did not ban X due to any Tumblr posts, it is true we were made aware of some less fortunate things said on their blog in regards to the MEBB. But we have never, and will never ban anyone for something they said on some blog.

X was banned for knowingly ignoring the rules to the MEBB, and for poor conduct when confronted with said issue. None of this was taken from, or related to Tumblr or any other blog, the ban was purely based on what was sent by X to the event, where said blatant disregard for a basic MEBB rule was evident, and the conversation that followed.

We do, however, apologize for the fact that the basis for the ban might not have been made clear to X. Even if we the admin team feel it is obvious, we saw no reason to carry on any conversation as it was not constructive to do so. We consider this discussion closed, and will not be replying to any messages or inquiries about said issue.

As the years go on, the tides of time continue ever on as well, and as such, the tools we use ebb and flow in popularity. With it comes the tides of change, and that's the end of the poetical ocean theme for the moment. Unless if I can think of a way to keep it flowing. (HA! See what I did there??)

Anyway, lol.

With it comes the banner size requirements for the Big Bang going forward. It used to be specified for LiveJournal, and then it got ported over to tumblr, and now it supports a different size. Bigger is always better. Right?

Old size: 540 x 250

New size: 1280 x 720

Size chart for easy use! This image is exactly the pixel count, so feel free to download it and wipe the image/cover it up with your own to make your banner if you wish.

(NOTE: This change is for the Mass Effect Big Bang only; all the other fandom Bangs out there are run by different people and they all have their own different requirements and specifications)

Everyone participating gets the size chart and the mockup banner in their ‘meet your mebb partner’ email, but we will leave them here, too, because admin doesn’t have time right now to change the FAQ, and rules. (The rule still stands, though; you still need to make a banner, and it still need to be in a easy to read font. It’s just the size that changed.)

This is a mockup of a banner, just to show everyone what we mean when we say the text must be easy to read. You want people to notice your story banner, not die from overstimulation of their neurons, or wonder what the F they are looking at.

If you don’t know how to make a graphic banner, from either your art, or something else – or you don’t do trad art, but interpretive dance... well, both Azzy and Potions have made many banners for people over the years – and you always have that solution, to ask us to make one.

All story snippets are tagged with a number. Once you read the available options through, click this link to sign up.

It is mandatory that you select two, but you will only be assigned one of them. This is because it’s a huge puzzle, and we will always attempt to give people their first choice, but if that cannot be done, you will be assigned your second choice.

If you can’t find one or two stories you want to do artwork for, you can write ‘none’ by both choice options, and click ‘yes’ to sign up as a pinch hitter. You can read more about pinch hitting in the FAQ, but the quick version is that pinch hitters are collected on a mailing list, and if there are stories that either didn’t get picked, or the author is abandoned – we will call upon you to help them out. There is no demand that you have to do it even if you sign up as a pinch hitter, it just means you will get notified if we need your help.

The moment sign up is over, and everyone is assigned to a partner, you will get an email from us which includes the email of the author of the story you picked. The author is obligated to send you the story as fast as possible, so you can read it and start thinking about what you want to create.

We're mentioning this because you might get a story that is not edited to its final version. The authors have all of the month where the artists work to edit and smooth out their story. They may not, however, change plotpoints or major scenes, and should not edit larger chunks without communicating with you, so the draft you are sent, however messy, is a version you can be sure will not change much.

You are obligated to create 1 piece of artwork, be it a drawing, a moodboard, photomanip, music or a photo – anything really, as long as you created it with the story in mind. You may create as many artworks for a singular story as you wish.

You are also obligated to make a banner (you can read more about that in the FAQ) but we will also send you an email when you are halfway through the month of creating, going into depth about final posting and the banner.

Hey there, Commanders and Pathfinders. We've been in an information blackout as admins have been dealing with Real Life Fuckwittery, and for that we apologize. That being said, the Big Bang is still going to happen! Mark your omni-tools:

It's a bit short notice, but we didn't want to overlap with holiday plans for posting.

If you didn't see the discord post, we do have two themes/prompts you can use as a launch pad, but you definitely don't have to follow them if you don't want to; they're simply there to sparks some ideas.

theme/prompt 1: Incorporate a trade you either wish you had, or you might have studied for when young but never finished. (example: I personally wanted to me a mortician, and started to study for that - but never finished because - well, life happened - ironic really. So I could write a story about a mortician in any setting my little brain could conjure up.)

theme/prompt 2: We all have that story we sorta wish we had written a sequel or a prequel to - so this prompt is for you. Write a sequel to a story you wrote at least one year ago. If it is not in the mass effect universe, you can do a crossover if you want to - all bets off really. (example: I wrote a mebb entry like 7 years ago, and I did start on a sequel but never finished that sequel - perhaps this is the opportunity I need to do that.
