Hi.

For, like, a million boring reasons I just unfollowed almost everyone on tumblr. After not being on facebook for over a year (and not being at a deskjob for about that long) I’ve developed all of these feelings and thoughts about how I want social media to exist in my life. For me.

And mostly that feeling boils down to: if you live in New York, I don’t want the majority of my interactions with you to be via the internet. I’d rather have less interactions overall and save my emotional/mental energy for one-on-one communication and in person contact. I am a shallowbeing of limited engagement abilities.

I’m not writing this post because I’m, like, important. I’m just writing this post because people have unfollowed me before and I have had my feelings hurt. If you’re the kind of person who notices when people unfollow you, and you come to this tumblr to see why: it’s not you, it’s me.

I really wanted a bagel yesterday so I walked into Pax but it was after 11am so they were out of bagels.

I think bagels are timeless.

The practice of only stocking enough bagels for breakfast seems like it should be against the law. Like how taxi cabs have to take you to any borough.

Okay.

I asked for a bagel but there were no bagels. So then I thought “A roll is a bagel for people who are willing to settle.” So I asked if they had rolls left. And the guy said “Only English muffins, honey.” And I got so mad at the combination of not having bagels and also calling me honey that I grabbed a fistful of free spoons and walked out.

Started down a horrible rabbit whole this morning. Engaged someone on twitter. I knew no good would come from it. But I did. After three exchanges I quickly back the hell out of the hole. Honestly, I barely even breathed in the direction of the bear and it began to flash it’s claws.

I tweeted this last week and, as is often the case, once I say something out loud, I start to think about it more.

Elements I would like in my wargame about squirrels:

• Simple mechanics. A wargame lite, as it were. The couple of boardgames I designed in the past were overly complicated. I like games that have surprising results and in the past to achieve that I have just made them more complicated. Which of course just makes game play longer. I would like to keep the game in the 90 minuted gameplay range.

• Card based without dice. I used to love the randomness of dice… but they can be such a bummer. I am a fan of deck building games due to the combination of strategy and randomness. (That amazing card you bought will come up eventually but also won’t come up constantly.)

• Some sort of verticality, which isn’t a word. Map of a park with trees that can be taken and occupied. But I love the idea of fighting in the branches. I am not sure how to achieve this… at least not in a relatively simple to understand/achieve way.

• Nuts would be both the game currency (what you need to pay to purchase units) but also the actual ammo used. So each type of nut would both have a value and special features when used as weapons. Examples:

- Peanuts: Value of 1. Base damage of 1.

- Almonds: Value of 4. Base damage of 3. Bonus to range and armor piercing (due to shape).

- Walnuts: Value 6. Base damage of 6. Area effect.

- Cashews: Value of 5. Base damage of 4. Some sort of boomerang power.

• Beyond different squirrel units and nut shooting weapons, other type of park animals can be purchased. Like raccoons and gophers.
