Just want to prefix this by saying I do like this influencer and her content, but I find it a bit 🤷🏻♀️ that she bangs on about “solo parenting” in the evenings because her partner has a boxing gym and goes to work then…but he’s home during the day? So is that not like every other mum that has baby by herself whilst their partner works during the day??
Also, another first time mum influencer came across my feed because she’d been putting her <6 month old to sleep in another room to where she was spending the day/evening and someone shared her posts with the lullaby trust and they’d dm’d her with safe sleep guidance. She had no clue that having baby sleep in the same room as where you are reduces the risk of SIDS. All fair enough if she didn’t know etc, but she kinda took umbrage with being advised and loads of other mum influencers jumped to her defence in the comments, saying how they’ve all done it regularly, they wouldn’t get anything done, can’t sit in the same room as their sleeping babies all day etc. like okay? We’ve all fallen off the ideal way of doing things and I’ve definitely put A down in the living room and gone to do washing up in the kitchen, however the difference is that I knew it was risky and would run back to check she was breathing every few minutes. I think this is the thing I hate about influencers - they’re literally influencing people with their behaviour but when they’re corrected for safety (so other people don’t do certain things that are dangerous!), they get all defensive and band together in their defensiveness. We all know what survivor bias is and just because multiple insta huns do the same thing, it doesn’t make it safe…
