the fact that kingdon is meant to be read as platonic is unironically what adds the buzz because you KNOW the characters are not meant to see each other carnally. they are not supposed to be attracted to one another, they are honest about finding the other a suitable companion for life. they find each other in every room, in every look— they want to be in each other’s life for eternity and they are kindred spirits without seeking anything else from the other because their existence in their life is enough. genuinely the definition of true love between soulmates

in my world robby and langdon could never date before their falling out. it was a casual relationship where langdon would enjoy robby’s undivided attention without explicitly stating that he wants more because he is afraid he will lose him forever. he was robby’s right hand man and heir of the pitt, it was the most intimate it could get for him. the most intimacy he could allow for himself without feeling rotten or self loathing. robby can pat him in the back for a good intubation or praise him in front of other attendings, and that will be enough for him; the fact that people know him as ‘robby’s guy’ is enough for him to go home and fantasize about it without needing to put labels on it, because he thinks it will never end. he is wrong.

whitaker teaching the newbies instead of mohan should’ve lead to a mohan character arc and THAT should have been one of the stressors to push her into considering a fellowship elsewhere. we leave s1 with samira crashing after an adrenaline high, taking care of dozens of patients, so we need a bridge; a connector that tells us how someone like her can suddenly see herself unworthy to stay in the ER and that bridge is robby. the robby that always mocked her, even in front of students, while putting langdon on a pedestal and calling him his best resident. that obstacle was gone when langdon fell, samira proved she was up for the task, and robby was actually praising her during the pittfest crisis… just to have her role snubbed and given to some guy who just showed up? how is that not frustrating for her, and how is that not a source of conflict between dr al-hashimi (who has previously worked with mohan and knows exactly the kind of skilled doctor she is) and robby?
