Music producers! I’ve just joined a fledgling Soundcloud collective started by Michael Mikkelsen, where every month someone assigns a two hour production challenge, and you have a week to come up with the goods.

Stealing from left, right and centre, this track's inspired by / contains more or less overt references to Caribou (the 'vocals'), Jon Hopkins (the bassline, which took age to crystalise), The Field (the love of repetition) and Trentemøller (the dub-like intro and outro). I'm sure trained and knowledgable ears will spot many more fragments in there, but those are the big ones I would mention / openly admit to.

WBR Suggests: Caius - Without You

Since Monday we have been feeling exceptionally laid back, thanks to this smooth number from Copenhagen based Caius. The Danish 20 year old’s Soundcloud is peppered with super chilled-out tracks and ‘Without You’ is the latest in a collection of sophisticated heavy-bass electronic music. The use of Ashanti’s ‘Foolish’ vocals drench this track in nostalgia and tie it in nicely with the producer’s popular releases (Make U Mine, Things Gonna Be Okay…). Recent conversations with Caius reveal that he is focussing heavily on production, so with any luck we may see some more releases soon. 9/10
