I feel like growing up in hawaii, we didnt really experience racism the way it is experienced in the mainland. We grew up with minorities and we were THE people. We were racist within one another but personally I felt like we were in it together. As in we were still an island who loves one another. To say the least.
Moving to the mainland is when I started to feel different. I went to college and navigated myself towards other Asians. When I felt uncomfortable with white ppl, I left the scene. I took myself out bc I had a choice.
Now I work in a community where I can’t walk away. I need to talk to everyone despite how different we think and how different we subconsciously treat others. I think I feel the racism.
I feel that white men can listen to my words and have it go through the other ear. I feel that my thoughts are wrong when people pushback on me. I feel like people don’t understand me when I say something because of the way I talk. I feel that even Asian ppl who grew up around white people can talk over me and walk away without listening to me..
