May watches Ravi dance with someone and finds herself ready to shatter glasses with jealousy. Except, he's aching for an escape from the unwanted attention. So, instead of making a scene, May steps in and helps. She gets a dance or two with her crush too.

Ravi doesn't like the guy that May tends to have watching over her, but May has asked him to let her handle things. She handles them just fine while defending Ravi against the jerk.

read on ao3 ; 3k of cat dad ravi and mushy feelings ; a 5+1 fic
Pippin is cute, and adorable, and possibly trying to steal his girlfriend.
“Uh, so,” Ravi paused in front of his door. “We just have to be careful going in.”
May raised an eyebrow at him. “Why?”
“Pippin — my cat — is kind of an escape artist,” Ravi explained. “And I’m late for his dinner.”
May giggled. “Alright, let’s not keep him waiting any longer,” she said.
Ravi unlocked the door and May scooted in behind him, closing it quickly behind her.
Pippin bounded up to them, skidding to a stop in front of Ravi and loudly expressing his displeasure as he pawed at Ravi’s knees and tried to climb up his leg.
“Okay, okay,” Ravi said, scooping him up into his arms and kissing his head. “I’m half an hour late, it's not the end of the world.”
Ravi is nervous about meeting May's mom even though he has had conversations with her before. It turns out, there's a little bit of Bobby in the dinner they have, and he should've expected to end up confessing to how long he's liked May Grant.

can we combine this with other events, if they allow it, as long as we keep mayvi at the center? for example there’s a 911event bingo and a multi-rin-bingo that i’d like to combine with some of these prompts.

Potential AU - May is or gets shrunk down to the size of thumbellina/a fairy, and Ravi has to carry her around in his pocket. Maybe they crimes? Maybe it’s just for a day? Maybe somehow Ravi has to keep Athena from finding out?
okay uh. I took some liberties haha but hopefully you like this! <3 also some more pippin for you <3
1. Ravi wakes up and rolls over, expecting to see his girlfriend. He does. But May is now approximately the size of his hand, palm to middle finger tip. He blinks. “Oh.” May’s voice has unfortunately shrunk with her and even in the quiet room, it’s hard to hear her. Ravi pulls up the microphone app he has on his phone. it’s not perfect but it’s a lot faster than her trying to type on her phone.
“You cannot tell my mom,” May says. “I told her I wasn't working in the spellcasters’ ward.”
“You’re asking me to lie to Athena Grant?” Ravi shakes his head. “She’ll spot that in a second.”
“Don’t lie, just don’t tell her,” May says. “It’s not like you two text.”
“You have just cursed me to work a scene with her today,” Ravi groans. “What’s the hospital protocol for this?”
“If it’s not actively threatening your health, give it twenty four hours to resolve,” May dutifully repeats. “And besides being tiny, everything else seems normal.”
“Yeah, that’s how I would describe this morning,” Ravi mutters.
He puts a hand down on the bed for her. She stares up at him. “I thought it would be weird if I picked you up,” he admitted. She steps into his palm and sits down cross legged. He carries her to the kitchen, putting her down on the counter while he makes some coffee. They debate over the best way for May to get some coffee, and settle on Ravi making her coffee in a measuring spoon that’s stuck between two cans at just below head height for May. It’s a little awkward but a lot easier than her trying to pick something up to drink out of. For breakfast he puts dry Rice Krispies on in a little bowl he usually uses for mixing spices.
May’s on her second spoon of coffee when Pippin jumps on the table. They both stare at him. he stares back at May. He leans towards her, and Ravi’s ready to grab him if he even seems like he’s going to bite her. Pippin starts purring and gently rubs his face against her, his tail flicking out and around her.
“Aw, who’s my best guy?” May giggles and scratches his head. Pippin does his jet engine purr for her. “Good Pippin.”
“I'm not your best guy?” Ravi mutters, faux offended.
2. May gets a coworker to come check in on her while Ravi's at work — it's basically the only reason he leaves. Well, that, and May’s worried that if he doesn't go to work, Harry will think somethings wrong and it could end up with him or her mom stopping by. Especially if they find out May is off too. So Ravi goes to work, and May promises to text any updates.
Of course they see Athena before lunch. Ravi is sweating buckets, sure that she's somehow going to know something is wrong. But all she does before she leaves is give Harry a quick hug and nod to Ravi. He's still not totally sure she likes him; she's polite when they have dinner together, and she seems to expect him more often than not at family events, but she's not… warm. Maybe it's just because he and May are still pretty new. Maybe Harry told her about his run in with Ravi at May’s house. Maybe she's mad that he ghosted May for a while.
By lunch time, he's only had one update from May, which said “all good”. He sends her a text back to see if everything is still the same. He doesn't realize his legs been bouncing until Buck points it out. Buck asks if everything's okay, and Ravi says yes. From his pause and narrowed eyes, he doesn't think Buck believes him, but he drops it. For a little while.
3. Later he asks if it's about May, and Ravi tries to deny it.
“You're not thinking about asking her to move in, are you?” Buck asks. “It's only been a couple of months.”
Rich coming from Buck, Ravi thinks. “No, nothing like that,” Ravi says. He decides he can be a little honest. “She just caught a little bit of something from work. I just feel bad I’m here and not looking after her.”
“Oooh,” Buck nods. “Gotcha. Hey, we could ask Cap to do a grocery run, make her some soup if you want.”
“Oh, sure,” Ravi says, mostly because it would be weird if he said no after telling Buck he was concerned about May. Plus, it'll distract him for a bit.
Shopping for ingredients and making the soup takes up a little less than two hours— technically they made two soups. Now they just have to let them simmer. Buck had talked at length about his preferences for broth soups versus blended vegetable bases but for sickness, broth was better, he said. Ravi had never considered himself to have strong soup opinions so he just nodded along.
The rest of the shift is surprisingly quiet, a few medical calls for Hen and Eddie, a couple car accidents for the rest of them. Thankfully no fires, and surprisingly they get out on time.
Ravi has a bag stacked high with containers of soup, and a couple of messages from May saying things are still the same.
4. He gives some of the soup to May'a coworker before she leaves (Anna, she introduces herself. She and May started their program together but she's in a different ward right now.) May can't really eat the soup at her size. It's too hot for a small container. Ravi makes her a couple of crackers with peanut better— she can break them up and then she's still getting protein. Over dinner, such as it is, May tells him that she and Anna talked to the hospital — they're pretty sure it's just a side effect of one of the kids they had in wishing that their sneeze or cough was smaller, and May got caught in the crossfire when she was doing check ins. They're not worried, and she can take another day off she needs it. Ravi hopes she doesn't, but at least he's off tomorrow if she does.
They decide to watch a movie— Ravi puts on a shirt with a pocket that May can sit in, and they watch off his phone so it's easier for May to see and hear. Pippin sits on his lap and stares at May for a few minutes before he lays down.
“He's been doing that all day,” May says with a laugh. “He knows it's me but he's really confused.”
“He’s confused most of the time, how can you tell?” Ravi says dryly. May tries to smack him, like she always does when he makes fun of Pippin (listen he's the most spoiled cat in LA and that's saying something. Ravi can tease him if he wants) but he barely feels it because she's so tiny.
Ravi ends up giving May a lift down so she can snuggle with Pippin when the movie’s over. He puts on a detective show she doesn't like, volume low and subtitles on. When Pippin startles from a car alarm going off outside, Ravi catches May before he even realizes what's happening.
“Pippin,” he scolds. “This happens at least twice a week. It's not inside, stop freaking out.”
May goes back to his shirt pocket until his show is done and then they head for bed.
May insists on brushing her teeth, aka Ravi squeezing out a little bit of toothpaste that she can swipe at with her finger to brush her teeth. They both stare at the bed when they go back to the bedroom.
“I don’t want to squish you,” Ravi says. He puts May down on her pillow. “I have an idea.”
He disappears for a minute and comes back with a cat bed she’s never seen before. “Technically this is for Pippin but I don’t think he’ll mind sharing for a night.” He places it just below the pillow and watches carefully as she climbs into it, hands ready in case she slips or needs a boost. He gets a t-shirt and tucks May in so she doesn’t get cold, and closes the bedroom door so that Pippin can’t come in. The last thing that Ravi thinks before he falls asleep is that he hopes May is back to normal size tomorrow.
5. He wakes up to the smell of coffee and the weight of Pippin on his chest. May is her regular size again, sitting on the other side of the bed and smiling at him.
“Well, that was good timing,” he says. “Unless you still have to go in today?”
“I do, but they said I could come in late,” May tells him, leaning forward to give him a kiss. “So I don’t have to run out just yet.”
Amber 💜 What about a May joined the 118 instead of Harry AU where she and Ravi begin (or already were in) a secret relationship. It gets revealed - or maybe they think it will, but it doesn't - when the biblically accurate Ravi bidding war happens and May goes all out to bid on her boyfriend. (Athena on the rooftop voice: "You're bidding on your boyfriend?")
1. Getting through the academy is one of the hardest things May’s ever done. Not just physically, mentally too. She’s never been that afraid of anything — she is her mother’s daughter after all — but forcing herself to run into burning buildings, even when she knows there are people there to keep her safe. It’s going to be even harder when she’s the one rescuing people, and there’s no one there to rescue her. Hen helps out with some after hours training, but one day when May shows up at the firehouse, she finds out Hen had to leave because Mara was sick. One of the other firefighters offers to help her out if she wants. This is the first time she’s actually talked to Ravi. He’s really helpful. He tells her he taught at the academy for a bit, gives her his number and says if she has any questions, just to call or text. May calls when she gets home and asks if he’d like to grab coffee with her.
2. One coffee turns into two, turns into lunches, then dinners. May still meets up with Hen for training, but works with Ravi as well. They’re basically spending all their free time together, which is maybe moving kind of fast, but. He’s a first responder, she’s on her way, they both know what that can look like. They haven’t dropped the “L” word yet, but it feels like it’s only a matter of time.
3. May’s family and the 118 come to her graduation — Ravi sends her a selfie of himself in his uniform before the ceremony starts. May can’t wait to get him out of it once she’s done with the family stuff. She knows one of her instructors recommended her to a couple of different stations, and she’s buzzing with excitement to find out where she’s going to be assigned. Her only concern about it, really, is hoping it’s not too far away from her house. She’s shocked to hear the “Station 118” called after her name. She fakes a smile but she can see the way Ravi’s genuine smile has dropped to something smaller and strained, even all the way from the stage. She had genuinely never considered that they might ask for her to fill their empty spot. Hen and Chimney immediately fold her into a 118 hug when the ceremony is over, Chimney effusing how much work she’s been doing with Hen and how well she’s been progressing, Hen asking if she’s surprised. May manages to answer them, somehow, and survive the impromptu lunch that they’ve planned. Ravi still comes over that night, but he looks sad. May asks why, and he says he doesn’t want to break up. May says they’ve been dating this whole time without anyone knowing, why does that need to change? She’s not about to break up with him.
4. May starts at the 118, and it’s easier to hide her relationship with Ravi than she thought. Buck shows her the ropes, and she gets paired with Hen for basic medical calls. She and Ravi try not to be alone together, and her past with the 118 means they don’t really want to ask her about her dating life — most of them have known her since she was in high school. It’d be a little weird.
5. The 118 gets assigned to the bachelor auction, and May is torn between wanting to proclaim the sexism of the event, glad that she’s not participating, and wondering if any of the higher ups have any idea how ignorant of history this event seems. She helps Ravi with his info slide, giggling as she adds “Cat Dad”. Buck says at least they usually get a good dinner out of it. The night of the auction, May sits with her mom, Maddie, and Captain Han — she tries not to think of him as Chimney in work situations. It feels too informal, too familiar for her captain. She’s handed a bidding paddle when she gets there, and she keeps it on her lap. She tries not to laugh when the other firefighters come out, but it’s so weirdly showy. When it’s Ravi’s turn, she gives him a small smile and a nod. And then — nobody is bidding on him? Her hand is in the air before she consciously processes the action. Captain Han applauds her for looking out for her teammate as more bids roll in for Ravi. May grits her teeeth. It’s for charity, she reminds herself. Someone yells out a suggestive comment as they bid, and May snaps. She doubles the bid. The auctioneer calls it in her favour immediately. Ravi hops off the stage to join them at their table, cheeks adorably flushed. He takes the empty chair next to May and she immediately clamps her hand down on his thigh and pulls him in for a kiss, barely this side of appropriate for a room full of people. “We’ve been dating for six months,” May tells the stunned table. She doesn’t let go of Ravi for the rest of the event.
Ravi wakes up to pain. His back aches and a dull throb tells him something is wrong with his left shoulder too. He groans and squeezes his eyes shut, wishing he could go back to sleep where the pain wasn’t so all-consuming.
“Ravi? Are you waking up?”
May’s worried voice is what gets him to slowly open his eyes. The bright overhead lights hurt enough that he closes his eyes again until he hears the scrape of a chair, footsteps, and May saying, “I dimmed the lights as much as I could.”
He tries again and it’s much easier this time. Slowly everything clicks into place as he really wakes up. The beeping of his heart monitor reaches his ears, the itchiness of the bandages on his body, his mouth feels full of cotton. May comes back to his bedside and reaches for something - he sees a cup with a straw in her hand, and he licks his lips, the sudden thirst nearly overwhelming. She brings the cup to his mouth and Ravi drinks eagerly, but only gets two sips before May says, “Slow down, babe,” and starts to pull the cup away.
Still, the cool water soothes his mouth and throat, along with waking him up. Ravi feels alert enough to croak out, “What happened?”
“You fell off the roof of a house trying to get a dog that was stuck.”
“What?”
May purses her lips, brows pinched in contemplation as she stays quiet before explaining, “Someone’s dog got onto the roof of their house, then the owner fell while trying to get the dog down - that’s when the 118 was dispatched. You and Buck were trying to wrangle the dog while Eddie and Hen were taking care of the owner, but it was running back and forth too much. Chimney said you dove to catch the dog as it slipped and you both went down.”
Ravi blinks. That’s so stupid he has no choice but to believe it. “What kind of dog was it?”
“Some horrible mix between a German shepherd and satan,” Ravi and May both turn to see Buck in the bed next to him, rolling over onto his side to face them.
No wonder Ravi’s entire torso feels like one big bruise, a freaking dog landed on top of him.
“Buck tripped trying to catch you,” May explains, “he smacked his head pretty bad and fractured his ankle, but he didn’t fall off the house like you did.”
Ravi asks Buck, “You feelin’ okay bud?”
“Likely have a concussion, so that’s fun, but mostly embarrassed about how it all happened.”
He’s about to ask May if he has any broken ribs - everything feels so sore it's hard to tell - when the door opens to let in Eddie, Hen, and Chimney.
“Hey you heroes, how you doing?” Eddie asks, a big smile on his face.
“Like an 80-pound dog fell on me,” Ravi answers dryly.
Chimney is at least a little more sympathetic. “You two will be off duty until you’re cleared to come back to work, but let me know if anything comes up. Ravi, you’ll be out way longer than Buck, but please don’t overdo the recovery.”
Hen sits in the chair between Ravi and Buck’s beds, reaching over to take a hand in each of hers. “You both really scared us, I’m glad you didn’t end up any worse.”
Ravi smiles in thanks and squeezes her hand. He’s grateful too, he always is when he walks away from a close call.
When everyone files out after saying their goodbyes, Ravi smiles at May and asks, “Wanna babysit me while I’m recovering? You can practice the new nursing skills you're learning.”
“Dude, I’m still here,” Buck complains.
Ravi waves him off while May laughs, "Happy to."
A prompt for you to consider, if you’d like! Mayvi, food as comfort/love 💚
ohhh thank you for such a sweet prompt!
****
May’s been quieter than usual in the days following the anniversary of Bobby’s death. She hasn’t really wanted to leave her apartment unless absolutely necessary, and has barely answered anyone’s texts, so Ravi takes it upon himself to show up at her place.
She looks confused when she opens the front door and sees him standing there. Her brown eyes are puffy and she’s in pajamas: an oversized shirt and sweats that have a small stain at the knee. It makes Ravi’s heart clench to see her this way.
“Hi, I brought stuff to make food so we don’t have to go out, but I wanted to make sure you’re doing okay,” Ravi explains as he shrugs the shoulder that has the insulated bag of groceries hanging on it.
Emotions flash across May’s face too quickly for Ravi to tell what she’s feeling, but then her eyes well up and her face crumples, arms reaching out to wrap tight around his waist. Ravi carefully lowers the bag to the floor, then wraps his arms around her shoulders, pressing his cheek against the top of her head and closing his eyes while squeezing her. He rubs his hands up and down her shoulders as she buries her face in his chest and cries. The warm heat of her breath and tears seep into his shirt and as they cling to each other, Ravi feels his own eyes prick with tears. He misses Bobby too. He hates seeing May in so much pain. He wonders what Bobby would’ve thought of them being together.
When she’s ready, May sniffles and takes a step back, wiping her eyes with one hand and opening the front door wider with the other.
“Sorry about that,” she mutters, still wiping at her eyes as they step into her apartment.
“Don’t,” Ravi clears his throat, “don’t apologize for anything, okay? Just let me take care of you?”
She doesn’t answer, but the nod she gives him is enough.
“What’s in the bag?” May asks as they head to her kitchen.
“Stuff to make khichdi, it’s a comfort meal in my family and I think you’ll like it too.”
Honestly, the food is as much for him as it is for her. Ravi unpacks the rice, ghee, lentils, spices and vegetables while May watches.
“Is there anything I can do to help?”
He shakes his head and gives her a small smile, “The point is for me to take care of you, May. Why don’t you take a shower while I work? It’ll take a little while since I have to soak the lentils.”
For the first time since he’s seen her, May smiles. “Is that your polite way of telling me I’m rank right now?”
Ravi laughs but neither confirms or denies and instead gets to work prepping as she leaves, the sound of her footsteps down the hall fading.
He’s adding the chopped carrot, potatoes, and peas into the pot when he hears May come back into the kitchen. He turns to greet her as he sets the cutting board and knife in the sink.
“Hey, feeling better?”
May looks more relaxed already, changed into fresh pajamas, the eucalyptus scent of her body wash lingering around her. She gives him a more genuine smile as she nods, coming over to give him another hug. Ravi opens his arms for her and rubs a hand up and down her back, kissing her forehead.
“Why don’t you go get comfy on the couch and put something on, this won’t take much longer.”
Tears well up in her eyes again as she pulls back, saying, “I don’t know how to thank you.”
“I told you, you don’t have to do anything,” he kisses her forehead again, “just let me take care of you.”
kiss prompts! “kissing you sounds like a very good idea.” please!
you let me choose a couple so i went with mayvi cause i love those crazy kids! :) set some christmas after May starts college
“Hey,” Ravi said with surprise as he turned around from the buffet table and almost bumped into May. “I didn’t know you’d be here.”
“Mom was off shift and Bobby said we should swing by,” May said with a shy smile. “Pre-Christmas dinner, huh?”
“I’m just glad we’re not working it this year,” Ravi admitted. “It’ll be nice to get to enjoy it and not feel like I’m rushing everywhere.”
“Oh, what do you usually do?” May asked as she loaded up her own plate.
“One day with my parents, one day at my sister’s, one day with my friends if we have time for everything,” Ravi listed off. “But sometimes I’m trying to cram that all into one day, or asking people to change plans. It’s nice to have an open schedule for once.”
“That sounds nice,” May said wistfully. “Harry’s with Dad for the holidays so it’s just me and mom and Bobby.”
“Quiet holiday,” Ravi said.
“Yeah, I give them about twelve hours before they start asking me about school,” May laughed.
The two of them took their full plates and moved to one of the smaller tables.
“I don't miss my parents asking me about about school,” Ravi said in between bites. “At least for the first two years I could deflect onto my sister, until she graduated.”
“Smart,” May said. “I'll have to remember that when Harry gets back.”
“I have some good ideas,” Ravi said.
“Kissing you sounds like a very good idea,” May said, laughing when Ravi looked at her in shock. She pointed up, and he followed her finger to see a sprig of mistletoe above them. “That’s why you picked this table, right?”
“If I say I didn’t know it was there, do I still get to kiss you? Theoretically?”
“Theoretically?” May laughed again, a little musical sound. “I’d have to say yes.”
“Good,” Ravi said, moving his chair closer and leaning in, letting May close the gap as he closed his eyes. They pulled apart to Buck and Hen’s whoops, and Ravi caught a small smile on Athena’s face before she gave him her patented cop face.
“Maybe,” Ravi said quietly, “if you need to escape over the holidays, I could be your getaway driver?”
“That’s your best idea yet,” May said, squeezing his hand under the table as they turned back to their food.

Featuring: awkward flirting, Buck being an annoying Big Brother, and energy drinks.
He turns, and there she is. Of course she is. Barely even winded, or sweating from all the work she's been doing. It is woefully unfair, he thinks, how pretty she is. "Oh. Hi."
"Hi," she says, one eyebrow lifting fractionally. "Oh, good. I was hoping there wasn't a huge lineup for the—"
"Coffee," he interrupts, holding it out.
"Oh, no, I couldn't—"
Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, he's a fucking moron; now she thinks it's—"No, it's not mine! It's for you, I got it for—yeah. I don't know how you take it, so I just put in a cream and sugar."

Ravi’s rinsing the dishes after lunch - burgers and salad and fries - before loading up the dishwasher. He smiles to himself, enjoying the way everyone’s voices mesh together and overlap until it’s a nice background hum, sometimes punctuated by a laugh or a shout.
The meal was uninterrupted by a call which was great, and crashed by May and Harry, which was even better. Ravi likes them both, and is glad that everyone at the 118 is determined to keep making them feel welcome here despite Bobby being gone. He won’t jinx it, not after last time, but their day so far has been surprisingly.. peaceful.
Loading the dishwasher is a puzzle, and everyone has their own way of doing it. Ravi knows the importance of rinsing everything thoroughly before putting it on either the top or bottom rack. He’s rinsing a truly questionable amount of ketchup off a plate when Chimney walks up and awkwardly grins while putting a plate in the sink.
“Sorry Rav, that one was a straggler.”
“No problem. I’ve got the dishwasher mostly full now so anything that doesn’t fit I’ll wash by hand.”
Chimney claps him on the shoulder with a, “Thanks, Ravioli,” and heads over to the lounge.
An amused voice from behind asks, “Ravioli?”
Ravi looks over his shoulder to see May on the other side of the island, forearms resting on the counter. Her pretty hair frames her face, which is done with light makeup from what he can tell. Growing up with sisters made him all too aware of the amount of effort that goes into looking like you’re not wearing any makeup.
“Yeah, that’s the nickname that stuck.”
“It’s cute,” May comments, “it means they like you around here.”
He looks down at the salad bowl he’s putting away and grins. It took a while for him to really feel like he belonged with the 118, and sometimes on a bad day the nickname grates, but overall he’s glad it means what May says.
“I’m just relieved they couldn’t come up with anything worse,” he confesses with a small laugh. “I’m a fan of ravioli.”
May snorts at that, shaking her head and saying, “You’re all a bunch of dorks.”
Ravi knows, and he kind of loves it.
“What nickname did they give you?”
She wrinkles her nose and mutters, “Maypole.”
“You’re not tall,” Ravi feels the need to point out.
“I know,” she laughs as she raises her arms in faux-exasperation, “that was what apparently made it funny, but they lost points for lack of creativity.”
”Leave it to Chimney to elongate our names when nicknames are supposed to be shorter.”
He feels a quiet triumph at making May laugh with that comment.
Returning to his task at hand, Ravi ducks down to grab a pod for the dishwasher from under the sink. He gets the machine started after dropping in the pod and looks up to see May watching Chimney, Hen, Eddie, Harry, and Buck playfully bicker about something that Eddie’s showing them on his phone.
He knows from Hen that the Grant siblings have been going over for dinner once a week, and they also have their weekly little Bachelor viewing party with Buck now that the show is back with a new season. Eddie has even invited Harry to come along when they all go to the gym. It’s really amazing how everyone has pulled together to help out as much as possible.
“You know,” Ravi slowly starts, crossing his arms and picking over his words carefully, “I haven’t been part of the 118 as long, and we don’t know each other super well, but if you ever need anything I’m here for you and Harry too.”
“Thanks Ravi, I really appreciate that.” May looks slightly surprised when she turns to him.
“Of course,” he replies with a small shrug. “It took a long time for me to really feel like I was part of this team, but Bobby was always welcoming and had a way of making you feel at ease. I think offering a helping hand however I can now is only right.”
The look May gives him is soft and only a little bit sad, so he takes it as a small victory.
He gives her what he hopes is a reassuring smile, then jerks his thumb over his shoulder towards the sink.
“I gotta take care of these dishes now, if you want to go hang out with everyone else.”
“Is it okay if I just hang out here? I can dry while you wash.”
Ravi waves a hand and shakes his head. “You’re a guest here, you don’t need to do that.”
His eyes follow as she hops down from the stool and comes around the island anyway. May gives him a defiant look when he goes to insist again.
“It’s nice to feel useful.”
It’s not like he can argue about that; he knows exactly what she means.
“Okay, alright,” he caves. “Thanks for the help.”
They get to work, talking softly as Ravi hands her a clean bowl or fork and May wipes it dry. He avoids any mention of Athena, remembering the looks on her face when Gutierrez had asked earlier how Athena was doing and the ensuing awkwardness. Ravi instead asks May other things: what music she’s been listening to lately, how school is going, what her top five movies of all time are. Their music taste is surprisingly similar, but their preferred movies are wildly different. Ravi likes indie movies and psychological thrillers, whereas May prefers drama and romcoms. The conversation flows until the dishes are all done, and as Ravi’s wiping down the countertops he starts to realize May is pretty cool. He’s about to ask if she’s ever been to one of the Laemmle locations when the bell goes off.
“Time to go,” he huffs, already hearing everyone else drop what they’re doing and run for the stairs or the pole.
Ravi dries his hands with a kitchen towel and shoots May a regretful look. He knows she’ll be leaving too, so they won’t be able to continue their conversation when he gets back.
He’s caught off guard when she wraps her arms around his waist in a hug. Ravi carefully puts a hand on her upper back, rubbing lightly.
“Be safe, and thanks.” She pulls away and meets his gaze.
“Will do,” he stays where he is though, feeling caught in her deep brown eyes.
“RAVI!” Hen’s voice startles them both into jumping.
“Sorry, sorry, go. We’ll see ourselves out.” May shoos him towards the stairs. Ravi catches the blush on her cheeks.
“See you around.” He turns back to wave.
“Boy if you don’t get your ass-”
“I’m coming!” Ravi nearly trips going down the stairs, stumbling when he gets to the bottom and running to join everyone else in the truck. He’s definitely going to be questioned, and likely get in trouble for talking back to Hen like that, but he’ll gladly take the heat.
