So, I'm also a make-up artist and cosplayer but, I'm a A-plus cosplayer , AND I'm black , I'm worried people will poke fun at me and tell me I should not cosplay what should I do about it?
Ok so I’m gonna be totally upfront here: people ARE going to tell you not to cosplay, BUT that is all the more reason you should. Do you know how many people tell me not to wear makeup because it makes me a “fake Trans”?
I know that is like nothing on the scale of oppression you may possibly face in general, because my body type and skin tone are conventionally privileged (especially on tumblr) but I still go out in the real world daily, and I still get the weird looks and disapproving stares too.
It takes time to build thick skin for social media and places, but as you get into it and as you present yourself to the world you will have time to gradually adjust as you gain notoriety.
I really implore you to try this because there are hundreds and thousands of Cosplayers in artists who could probably use a role model like yourself!!!! Not to mention you’d have a wonderful time, despite any negative comments. The positive really overwhelms the negative with this ordeal.
actually IRL cosplay events tend to me a lot more tame as far as that type of thing goes although I obviously can’t speak from personal experience.
I’m the anon who asked this.
