RIP, or rather, Live Long and Prosper, Leonard Nimoy (March 26, 1931 - February 27, 2015)
It is with some sadness we note the passing of actor Leonard Nimoy, best known for his iconic role as Spock in the 1960s television series Star Trek.
The influence of Star Trek and its characters such as Mr. Spock on American culture would become so great that it reached even the desk of the President of the United States. In 1976, President Ford approved of the proposal to name the new Space Shuttle “Enterprise," after Star Trek's eponymous starship, due in large part to popular demand.
”The space shuttle Enterprise is parked atop its specially-designed 76-wheel transporter at Space Launch Complex Six. In the background is the payload changeout room, 2/19/1985” Documents about the naming of the Space Shuttle “Enterprise” from the Presidential Handwriting File of the Ford Presidential Library and Museum (via fordlibrarymuseum)

OMG…Leonard Nimoy is a Monkees fan!! That’s so cool.
He taught us to live long and prosper and he was a Monkees fan. What more could you ask for from a childhood hero.

Carole King— Pleasant Valley Sunday demo (1966)
30 Day Monkees Challenge: Day 14 – Favorite song the Monkees didn’t write, but sang— Pleasant Valley Sunday, written by Carole King and Gerry Goffin
"Pleasant Valley Sunday" is my choice because it’s a good example of the Monkees taking a song and truly making it their own, which I don’t think they get enough credit for! Clearly Carole King is a genius, but the Monkees took this song to even greater heights with Micky’s perfect vocals, Chip Douglas’ famous guitar riff (played by Mike Nesmith), and Peter Tork’s rocking piano lick. Also the Monkees added a psychedelic edge that helped the song stay in the Top 5 for the entire summer of 1967.
When people argue that the Monkees didn’t have anything to offer musically, this song is always a nice rebuttal, as the most rocking and enduring aspects are ones that they created in the studio with Chip!

Between Mike’s smoking-hot cowboy hat and Micky’s fro, I didn’t notice the blinding clash of Davy’s outfit. Whoa, little buddy.
I LOVE Mike’s incredibly nerdy shoes/socks combo! LOL
Maybe that’s why Micky is pulling that face.
This must be after the show was cancelled. I can’t believe Gene would let all three of them out in public like that.
I think it’s not only after the show was canceled, but after Peter left.

Because his wife’s statement asked us to remember the years of happiness his life inspired…
A Russian cosmonaut has posted stunning pictures of the supermoon, giving a preview to one of the most dramatic space events of the year. On Sunday, stargazers will be able to view the biggest and brightest moon in 20 years.
Not only is Dennis Hopper in Head (in the Canteen scene along with a hundred or so other “real” people as Peter complains to Rafelson about having to hit a woman); he’s apparently in the process of pitching his script for Easy Rider to Bob Rafelson. It’s a bit of self-referential comedy that only insiders would have understood. From the SOTCAA script analysis:"The slice of staged cinéma vérité soon becomes ingrowing as Dennis Hopper also pops up, attempting to get Rafelson’s attention amidst the general confusion ("Bob? Bob? When you have a minute?"). Biographical accounts suggest that Hopper and Peter Fonda did visit Raybert Productions while Head was in production - to pitch Easy Rider. Perhaps exploring the spirit of ‘random art’ - all the rage amongst arty souls around this time - it would seem that Rafelson decided to pluck an extra bit of reality from the air to flesh out the background of an otherwise fake documentary sequence.”

My time is extremely limited these days, so I have to unfollow a bunch of you lovely people who post a lot of stuff outside of the Monkees and classic rock tags. Please understand that it is nothing personal. I just don't have time to scroll through it all.
