The origins of the name Ayam are yet unknown. The humanoid species which evolved on the planet Marblun came to know Ayam as the great expanse, the infinite space beyond, but scholars have also identified its use in everyday language where "Ayam!" is used as a wholehearted expression to communicate awe or sorrow. Some students of Marblun society have suggested its meaning arises from one of the few remnants of religious expression that have been identified among Marblunites, but this description has resulted in controversy due to conflicting knowledge of the miniscule presence of orthodox religious behavior within Marblunite culture. Current thinking has suggested that Ayam has come to represent the simple truth of existence, a placeholder for the unspeakable aspects of reality. Interestingly, the phrase has been identified throughout time and space on the planet Marblun, where individuals have used the phrase in all known stages of Marblunite evolution since the development of spoken language. The longevity of this phrase and its application in everyday society remains a mystery to linguists studying Marblunese, but speculation has attributed its perpetuity to the relative lack of orthodox behavior throughout Marblunite history, thus enabling its widespread adoption for purposes of sheer interpersonal subjective recognition where it is used merely to provide a sense of affirmation.
