“Good to meet you, Mayan. Thank you for listening to my ramble,” he laughed gently, giving their hand a light shake. “Yeah? I guess, if you know, you know. There’s definitely some stranger things happen in Summerset,” he nodded. “I’m glad I have someone to talk to about it then.”

"Please, rambling is my specialty.  I’m just happy to have a fellow patron of the ramble amongst the citizens here.”  Mayan laughed and shook their head slightly.  “Oh that there is, more than most normal people know about.  Though to be fair to Summerset, it has always been home to the strange.”

Ethel was not much of a swimmer herself. Not to mention the fact it was the middle of May and the water was freezing. But she enjoyed watching people enjoy themselves, she enjoyed their childish delight. “They look like fools.” She laughed gently. “What a privilege it is to be a fool.” She lifted her thermos. “They say the lagoon has the best view of the flower moon tonight, is that why you are here?” She asked curiously.

There was no way in hell Mayan was going to swim, in general he wasn’t much of a swimmer but especially when it’s still noticeably cold out.  But what Mayan couldn’t resist lounging by the Lagoon and people watching.  He smiled once he realized he wasn’t the only one who had this plan.  “They really do but at least they’re having fun.”  He laughed before looking at the other.  “I’m hoping so!  I’m also hoping to see some pretty views of the fireworks they’re going to put on later.  I’ve always liked the idea of seeing double the fireworks if you count the reflections.”

Felix laughed gently, nodding. “I appreciate that, I do. Thank you. I’m Felix, by the way,” he said, holding his hand out to the other. “Yeah, a lot happens during the May full moon. Many believe the energy from the phenomenon can be… felt,” he replied, he really believed in that stuff. “Or maybe it’s just stuff passed down over generations but I think there’s some truth to it. Thank you for humouring me.” 

"Mayan, pleasure to meet you.”  Mayan responded and took his hand to shake.  “Oh I can believe it.  I mean the moon has to effect more than just the tides around here.”  Mayan knew the truth of just how much power the moon had, hell he even knew his powers weren’t as strong as they usually are when it comes time for the full moon.  “Oh you are welcome, you’re preaching to the choir here.  I am always down to talk about the cosmics.”  Mayan said with a trill of his hands.  Not only was the subject interesting, but he learned a lot from his parents who mainly focused their practice on that sort of pathway.

“Thank you, for the mention of nodily fluids, I think I was starting to miss the thought.” He was being sarcastic and his was obvious. Funny that the two of them ended up in similar careers despite how different they were. “Seven cats,” He cringed, “Well next time you want to clearout that problem real fast, give me a call.” Funny how other animals could sensethe lingering creature under its human form and immedately became defensiveand nervous to it.

“I’m off work this week, so I don’t have to deal with any that. You’d be surprised the number of cats we come across and their demanding owners as well.” It was half an explnation of why he was there. “But I’m a familair fixture here in Pete’s and the thought of going home and sitting on the couch, I was already feeling a little stir crazy. So this helps.”

”Oh it’s my pleasure, it’s my personal goal to bring everyone down with that visual tonight.  If I have to think about it so does everyone else.”  Mayan laughed, being just as sarcastic.  They honestly were happy to get to have this chance to sit down with Andrew.  “I’ll definitely have to keep that in mind, I just have a sinking feeling she’s going to try to pull this again sometime soon.”

“Lucky you!  Do you usually get off during this time of the month?  Can’t imagine it’s easy being on the job during it.”  In truth Mayan was very curious about the other species around the island, they knew about the mechanics of them all but all of it was entirely too depersonalized for Mayan’s liking.  “Well that does surprise me, isn’t that supposed to be more of the fire department’s job to get cats out of trees?”  He laughed at his own joke.  “I guess that makes sense.  Sometimes anything beats being home with just your thoughts.”

generally, clara likes being approached by adoring fans – but this morning she’s still nursing a slight hangover, would really prefer to finish her grocery shopping so she can try to squeeze in a nap before her next performance, and is starting to suspect that the extremely dull person now following her around the market is about to ask her out. the worst part is that he hasn’t let clara get a word in for quite some time – which is a feat in itself, since even clara can admit that she’s not easily silenced either. she briefly considers pretending to recognize a passerby in order to get away but suspects even that would not be an obvious enough deterrent for her companion. 

then he asks for her phone number. she could honestly tell him she doesn’t have one, but a better idea flickers in her mind.

“of course – wait one moment though, i think i have a call coming in.” clara reaches into her basket and pulls out a banana, then holds it to her ear. “hello? oh yes, i’ll be right there!”

she rushes away before the man can say anything else, quite proud of herself – as she does, her eyes meet those of someone who has clearly just witnessed the entire interaction. she shrugs unapologetically. “i’d do it again.” 

Mayan had a late appointment back at the vet’s office so they decided to finish as many errands as they could so that way the weekend could just be used for relaxing.  One of the main errands, and the one being completed at this moment, was shopping for groceries for the week.  Now normally the shopping experience was aa mundane one, you get in and get out with little to no events happening.  However, Mayan saw the whole interaction play out in front of them.  Banana and all.

Mayan’s eyes went back and forth between the banana caller and the man walking away in defeat.  “By god that actually worked.  He - he does know that was just a banana right?”  To say Mayan was confused was a huge understatement.  “You have to teach me how you did that.  I always need new ways to get out of conversations.”

Felix was glad they were humouring him, offering the other a smile as they responded to his comment. He looked down at the dog, patting its head for a moment. “Exactly, right? My mom she loves this stuff and I guess I do, more than I admit. Well, I’m currently admitting it to you,” he laughed at himself. 

"Well your secret is safe with me, promise.”  Mayan laughed, while crossing their heart for extra emphasis.  “Apparently cosmically this full moon is supposed to be powerful, I don’t know if that’s necessarily true or not.  But it’s always interesting to read about at the very least.  Maybe you and your mom are onto something, I honestly don’t pay as close attention to it as much as I should.”

Andrew turned his head to the familair voice, immedately recognizing their local veternarian and resident witch. Mayan and him had both grown up in Summerset, gone to school together, and both were things the local humans talked about that went bump in the night. That’s where the similaries stopped; they hadn’t been friends…he kind of remembers being in biology class together but high school was a long time ago. Plus the supernatural circles hadn’t really ever come together, it was Andrew’s father’s opinion that the wolves needed to look out for themselves and not draw attention from the demons that truely ran this town.

He was a regular at Pete’s, having even snuck into the place at sixteen and stealing a bottle of gin; his first attempt at drinking. So he quickly flagged down the bartender and without words, indicated a couple shots more and they were brought to the table. Sliding one over, “Here,” He raised his own and brought it to his lips and tipped it back. “Sounds like it was a bad day at the vet’s office.”

Sure Mayan wasn’t the best of friends with Andrew, or really any type of friends in general, but Mayan respected him.  They ran in different circles in school, not that Mayan really had any circle at all.  But Mayan knew that Andrew inherited the Davenport pack and that in itself was something that made Mayan try to strike up a conversation to get on Andrew’s good side.

“Thank you, truly.”  Mayan said with a little cheers of the drink before downing it.  “Honestly they really downplay the amount of bodily fluids you encounter.  It truly was not a pretty day all around.  Plus someone brought in all seven of their cats without an appointment and demanded to be seen in a timely manner.”  Mayan shook their head and sighed.  “But what about you?  What brings you in here?”

      The fiver slipped into the till as quietly and smoothly as Atticus could muster, careful to not let the machine create more noise than necessary or set any loud dings that would rattle in their ears until the sharp tone spiked against the drums. And with easy and languid steps, a long look over and debate of which to use, they removed a brown bottle and broke it open.

      It felt like a hangover, head clouded with a diluted attention as if they were viewing the world through a veil welts under the witch’s eyes and a light glisten to their skin to further the lie they imbibed too much for their tolerance. ‘If only it were that simple’, was the lingering thought as they popped two white capsules into their mouth and chewed– a bitter taste that made them wince that would hopefully bring sweet relief for the oncoming headache. A hard swallow and a moment of mindful grounding, the brunet came to clearer senses and felt the other’s presence behind them.

     “I highly recommend them if you’re in need of quick pain relief,” they spoke, rattling the bottle between two fingers before pocketing it. Or at least the medicine might help over time, truth yet to be seen. “Though preferably with water. They’re not meant to be chewed, and I’m remembering why.”

It was far from Mayan’s first time in the Alchemist’s Shadow, it was the best place to get any materials need for both every day occasions and for spells.  Mayan had walked in, hoping to get supplies for the upcoming full moon, when they saw Atticus pop a few pills without a chaser.

Mayan couldn’t help but laugh at Atticus’s words of warning.  “Honestly I could never do that.  I have to drown it as quickly as possible.  I can’t even stand having to take chewable antacids.  I firmly believe the only thing that should be chewable is food, and nothing else.”  They laughed, while nodding over to the medicine in question.  “Rough night?”

Felix enjoyed being outside. The smell, the air, how freeing it felt. He took in a deep breath, the breeze was cool later in the evening but being a wolf always made him that little bit warmer. He barely noticed. He glanced up at the darkening sky, letting out a soft sigh. “I feel like I spend my life… thinking about the phases of the moon. It’s always on my mind. It’s a full moon in a couple of days… which means it’s getting closer…” He paused. “it’s the full Flower supermoon. I guess I know a lot about this stuff.”

Mayan was at the local park, enjoying the night with their dog before heading on home for dinner.  The night was getting cool, and honestly Mayan loved this weather.  It felt like anything could happen, but now that the winds could be changing metaphorically - it only amplified that feeling.  “Well knowing about the moon is nothing to scoff at.  People have always been fascinated by the moon, it’s part of who we are as humanity.”  He shrugged, knowing full well that the two of them probably knew about the moon for different reason than most humans.

This close to the fullmoon, the shots of whiskey that he was knocking back at pete’s hardly did anything. Werewolf metabolism as the phasing of the moon slowly transitioned him from the six foot two human to a large wolf on four legs. But this close to the fullmoon and he was a little stir crazy. It was his week off from work, so he didn’t have that to preoccupy his time and going home would have made stirrings worse. He downed the last of shot glasses and turnedthe empty glass over on the counter just as another joined him. “I’m ordering another round, care for a whiskey shot?” 

Mayan wasn’t exactly a regular at Pete’s, but he had been known to make an appearance at the bar and especially when he had a rough day at work like the day he had.  He was waiting for the bartender to notice him when Mayan was offered a shot.  “After the day I had I wouldn’t say no to one.  Sure!”
