Whether Ikemoto makes Boruto & Sarada romantic relationship canon or not, I’m not getting on that ship. The last time I had a change of heart about making peace w it was when the hug happened and Ike ruined it after that. That love triangle is misogynistic af and I do not find it cute or funny for female characters to be humiliated so the men reading & writing can giggle at how stupid/naive girls are. I also do not like the representation of girls being boy crazed and nothing else matters esp regarding a boy that is not even giving half that energy.

I don’t know what he will make canon for sure. I NEVER underestimate men’s desire to humiliate women so he could genuinely do that to Sumire. Hopefully he won’t but it’s not impossible.

That said, I could see the intentions behind this as a shipping moment but at the same time Ike keeps everything so vague that this could easily just be platonic teasing as well. Would anyone blink an eye if he had this same convo with Hima? No, no one would find it strange. Nobody’s blushing, flirting, giggling or nervous, he’s poking fun like he always has. That dynamic has been present since day one. But it’s not just the messy fans, Ike intentionally stirs up this drama.

Whole thing is frustrating. Gege Akutami is a better writer. For a Shonen YutaMaki was handled really well and I love that maki never lost sight of any of her goals just bc of Yuta. Carried her own arc without Yuta (or anyone except Mai arguably) saving her or even appearing so she could focus on her goals. She worried about Yuta without neglecting herself & everyone else she loved. Even their love triangle was handled way better and Yuta told Rika to cut that competitive shit out immediately.

Wasn’t this weird vague shit Ike does & was immediately made clear that Yuta moved on from Rika in the beginning of the story. Notice the vague love triangle was a small ARC, not the entire storyline. My fucking goat Gege respecting women.

It’s weird, Sarada keeps having these neutral to negative reactions to talking about Boruto’s appearance. Not even a blush when it comes up.

Most of the fandom are on borusara’s side, so there is no twist or anything interesting to just go with Sarada after making this love triangle. I think he’s putting on a humiliation ritual bc he’s a misogynist lol but I don’t think in the end they’ll be endgame.

It’s possible for sure, but I don’t think the story is heading that way. I think what will set Sumire & Sarada apart is that Sumire will understand him deeply & or play a role in countering momoshiki. I’m suspicious Eida will be the Neji to Boruto & Sumire, but since she’s excited for Sumire’s confession, I feel she’d likely tell Boruto what Sumire has done for him / cares for him but lets her reveal romantic feelings on her own. He’s been writing Boruto & Sarada’s relationship in such a vague way that it leaves him an escape route. In their first moment alone Boruto could’ve mentioned that he really missed her without even having to go full romance, just an actual intimate moment of sorts, but Boruto makes a joke about himself instead.

Again, all of this misogynistic vitriol in this fanbase is largely Ikemotos fault. JJK had a WAY bigger fandom & there very much was issues with Naoya fans but Gege stood against them. When he teased her this time she didn’t have that nervous reaction like she did in chapter 6 post hug. Her whole demeanor has changed after embracing her feelings. It’s annoying bc I don’t have faith Ike would write this level of depth, but if Sarada became obsessed w saving Boruto bc of that guilt, I could find some forgiveness for the boy crazy writing.

Didn’t love this chapter but I just wanted to point out a few things

Hehe my prediction from chapter 33 got mentioned

-Either this is a retcon, a mistake, or intentional but this is ChoCho in BNNG chapter 34

& this is ChoCho in TBV chapter 34

& she makes it clear that she’s just now seeing both boys as attractive so it’s not even how omnipotence has been told to us so far. Don’t know what happened here exactly but it’s weird

-Another weird subtle moment is Eida watching ChoCho run to Sarada to go to the hospital with Konohomaru & her. Daemon asks her if she’s ok, which makes her think about Kawaki.

& the focus is on Eida feeling disappointed and likely culminating in her moving on from Kawaki, but it’s being glossed over that she never goes to see Sarada. This actually makes me wonder about my theory that Eida leans towards Sumire. I also wonder if she caught on to Kawaki caring about Sarada’s health last chapter but not caring at all about hers & that’s why she didn’t go.

-Why does Code think Sarada is important to Kawaki? He also thought that back in the early chapters of TBV. I wonder if this ever gets explained because it actually does stand out as weird in story. Cant tell if it’s just Ike giving Code & Sarada more relevance/things to do or if this is intentional. Bc he seemed to forget/retcon the chocho thing so I can’t tell exactly if this is just something overlooked

-Sumire being called her name continues to be depicted as standout moments to varying degrees. It represents Sumire shedding her persona that was more tied to her anbu mission, class rep, & finding acceptance as her true self. It feels her moment with Boruto calling her name is being built up with each reintroduction she has.

-I also saw people theorize that Kawaki will kidnap Hidari’s bulb & put it in the dimension with Naruto & Hinata. It does make a lot of sense to me but I also think it’d be bad writing for Kawaki… it’s making him this 1 dimensional flat villain that he was not depicted as originally. In sasukes descent to madness, he had moments that anchored him to his good-willed nature like his care for his teams when fighting killer bee. Or how obito still cared about Kakashi & rin after his injury & didn’t turn cold until rin died.

I was like the ONLY person who noticed how weird the chocho retcon was and it was significant enough to be asked in an interview. My eye for detail & pattern recognition goes crazy

I wouldn’t say he don’t care maybe what we’re seeing is internal conflict like it’s too much going on at the moment for him to see if she is fine. I think he’s a bit worried because again he didn’t know the drawbacks of Sarada MS which explains why he reacted that way 2 chapters ago. He did check her condition after Sumire asked and said she was fine and Himawari did heal her.

I think it’s just a processing thought.

But again, its always Sarada-> Boruto

But it’s never Boruto->Sarada if you understand.

It’s a bit weird how it looks he barely cares or don’t have a big reaction to Sarada being a possible target for code especially knowing its the possible outcome code would’ve did and yet he kept taunting him and boruto didn’t take him seriously.

My short fan manga of Kawaki humbling himself & comforting Sarada after the events of TBV chapter 33. (This is not a theory, idk how likely this plot line is. I just made this for practice & fun. I want to write a graphic novel one day & this approach helps a lot)

This is a lot of work and took me a while and idk if I’m going to finish before the leaks/ chapter come out, I have to study for upcoming exams lol.

Kurama wisely recognizes that Kawaki is not a cold heartless person yet. He does have the capacity to care for others still & show empathy. When Kawaki finally decided to start rebuilding his life it was because of Naruto & Sarada. He gets a Minato trading card & learns he was the 4th Hokage. While thinking about Naruto being the 7th, it seems to convey that he thinks of Sarada. If not, the story connects it to Sarada, Sarada did nothing important in the card trade so she wasn’t needed at all. So this moment has to be the reason why she’s written into the scene. I believe as him acknowledging her as deserving to be in the line of succession.

In the next pages, it’s Sarada & Naruto that are shown teaching Kawaki.

I also think Sarada was significant here bc when Kawaki first asks Naruto to train him, he was shown thinking about rebuilding the vase but he still didn’t do it. When he gets Naruto’s card, Sarada is shown before he’s motivated into action. Naruto alone wasn’t enough.

He obviously cares about her, but he’s mentally ill & tunnel visioned. He also cares about Hima, Boruto, and Mitsuki as well. It’s weird how ppl totally misread or neglect giant chunks of the story. This isn’t even debatable. He purposely elevated Mitsuki & Sarada’s efforts fighting bc he cared about their success as ninja. He was just teasing/trolling Boruto.

I also noticed after he’s rude he usually mentions that he wants to kill himself. It shows he does feel guilt and recognize his behavior is harmful. Even towards Eida, who I don’t think he cares for, he’s shown this guilt.

Sarada was the first friend he made. Not only that, it was Naruto who declared it. Kawaki immediately distanced himself from her emotionally as a trauma response. In the next chapter there’s that connection made between her & the Hokage title for Kawaki. Which makes me think he softened the more safety he felt & took her up on her offer from likening her to Naruto.

Kawaki was having panic attacks from flashbacks & fear of Jigens abuse. That’s when Naruto hugged him, in his most vulnerable moment so far in the story, and Sarada was there to watch. Not only that, Sarada seeing him at his most vulnerable immediately turned around and likened herself to Naruto & wanting to be there for him. She also physically comforts him through his next panic attack like Naruto did before.

I believe he also sees Sarada as someone who understands his pain from how she talked about her resentment towards Boruto & his privileges. (Ch 38) Bc truthfully, that’s half the reason why Kawaki took advantage of Omnipotence. Yes, momoshiki was a threat that does give initial & logical cause to attack but Kawaki also wanted a reason to justify his complex feelings around his place in the Uzumaki family & Konoha as a whole.

That’s why his rant starts with “otutsuki is a threat” & devolves into “*everyone cares for him but nobody cares about me which is good bc im trash” as he gets more emotional, he gets more honest about how he feels. Describing boruto as his brother again, just like what he told Naruto & Hinata before sending them away. It’s just buried under layers. Hopefully Sarada makes this connection & confronts him on some talk no justsu timing.

*just in case I didn’t make it clear Kawaki is jealous of Boruto the way Sarada was.

Even the conflict with Boruto eats at him. He intentionally reminds himself that Boruto is a ‘monster’ to justify acting out his feelings of resentment & insecurity, as well as shield him from the guilt & repress the fact that he actually cares about him. (“Why’d it have to be him?” double entendre)

Even before things spun out of control, Kawaki thought about how Boruto viewed him. He was secretly bothered that Boruto disliked parts of him to the point it was a driver in him wanting to rebuild the vase. (Which we all know as a metaphor for kawaki rebuilding himself)

Also with ppl he cares for he does care how those people view him. Notice the emphasis he puts on how high a cost it will be for him to be hated by Naruto & hinata to protect them.

(Funny enough I think his care for Boruto & Sarada also stem from them pushing back on his behavior. I think that’s what he distrusts about Eida actually. Her enabling & groveling comes off like an attempt to use him, I believe. Which he’s paranoid about from past trauma. He also initially started being cordial w Naruto for the same reason, he challenged his behavior.)

Overall Kawaki is beholden to his trauma still, so he pushes down his most honest feelings to stay focused on his goals. But the care still leaks out bc like Kurama said, he hasn’t dried up yet.
