When I'm With Him, I'm Thinking of You â©âË.âđžïžââșââ§
Y/n has to choose between a one night stand with New York's golden boy and her bestfriend Peter who she isn't even sure likes her back. After their last argument, she's not even sure he likes her as a friend anymore.
situationship, minor angst, mutual pining, slightly suggestive content.
"Y/n over here!" you heard as you walked in The Velvet Hour, a fancy bar uptown your friends had chosen to celebrate KatieÂŽs long time coming singleness after finally dumping her loser ex. It was her way of coping with the breakup and, well, you would be lying if you said it didn't also help you keep your mind off of Peter.
"Hey! you look great!" you greeted Katie with a smile.
"Me? girl look at you! Look's like I wont be the only one having fun tonight", her comment made you blush, oh how you wished Peter was there to see you, you were wearing a short tight black dress that hugged your curves in the right places, leaving just enough room to the imagination, paired with your favorite boots he always complimented.
You greeted the rest of your girlfriends and as conversations went on, more drinks needed to be served. You made your way up to the counter and asked for another round of shots when suddenly a masculine voice intercepted.
"This one's on me" he said, "add it to my tab" he added, flashing his amex black card at the bartender.
"Sure Mr. O"-"Harry, my name is Harry", he interrupted, reaching his had offering a polite handshake.
"And you are?" - "y/n", you replied, returning the gesture... maybe keeping your mind busy wouldn't be so hard after all.
"So, what's a pretty girl like you doing here tonight?"
"Having a few drinks with my girlfriends" you said, matching the confidence in his tone. "You come here often?"
"No, not really. You?" he asked with an innocent look on his face.
"Really? You seem like a regular giving the fact that the bartender knows your name, Mr. O- Harrymynameisharry" you teased.
"Haha you got me there. I used to be, back when I was in college, not so much anymore though, you know, work" he said sipping his drink.
"Oh I know work" you replied rolling you eyes.
A curious look got in his eyes "What do you do?" he asked. You got his attention, "I work in healthcare" you replied, playing it cool.
Katie witnessed it all from the other side of the bar, reaching in to get the drinks "I'll get these out of your way" she said as she quietly left, not without giving you a "go for it" look.
You asked Harry about his job, to which he only said he worked for his dad at a tech company.
"So... Is buying a round of shots just to flirt with girls considered a bussiness expense?" you joked "What will your dad think of that?". You thought you saw a glimpse of shame in his face which he quickly masked with a comeback "One. It's my personal card, and two, I'm not flirting with girls, I'm flirting with you".
That took you by surprise, is it really that simple for a guy interested in you to tell it to your face? Were you stupid for nitpicking small facial expressions and words Peter said? Trying to find just an ounce of unquestionable straight-forward interest? You caught yourself drifting away and quickly snapped back into the conversation. If Peter didn't like you, well, this guy did, and that's all you needed tonight.
Before you realized an hour had gone by, you had ditched you friends for a guy you just met, but it somehow felt right, at least for now, it numbed the spider-shaped hole in your heart a bit. And all signs pointed to the night ending in a stranger's bed.
Harry kept making smooth moves on you, and fuck it, maybe it was just the need of attention but he was tickling all the right places, you felt yourself leading him in more and more, but you couldn't let him win, you couldn't let him sweep you off your feet without teasing him a bit more.
"What's with the mystery playboy?" A puzzled look on his face, oh you got him. "You expect me to just go home with you without even telling me what you do or what you name is?" He clearly wasnÂŽt expecting to be confronted like that.
"You really don't know?" Now you were the confused one. "No..?" you replied. "Everybody in here knows" he said, motioning the entire bar. "And why is that?" you asked, looking around, "is everyone here a tech-bro but me?" you looked at him with furred brows.
That made him laugh, "You're funny y/n" he said, a cocky look on his face, "I work for Oscorp Industries" he continued as he pulled a business card from the inside of his suit jacket and handed it to you.
"Harry Osborn, at your service ma'am", he winked.
"Ohh fancy, like the scene from 'American Psycho' â you replied, trying to seem nonchalant.
Harry Osborn? as in New York's richest, smartest, hottest guy? Ohh this would DEFINETELY make Peter jealous, you thought, if he only knew who was sitting here trying to take you home with him, flirting with you, buying you drinks, he would finally confess.
But even then, if he was all that, how come you couldn't stop thinking about homely, cheesy, nerdy Pete? If a guy like that isn't enough to keep him out of your thoughts, who would?
It was then you realized you'd never forgive yourself if you weren't honest with him, if you didn't rip the bandaid off.
All this time you resented him for not being brave enough to tell you, but you weren't any different.
"So? What do you say?" Harry's voice snapped you back to reality.
"What?" you answered with genuine confusion, "the music's too loud" you played it off.
"Do you want to go somewhere quieter?" He said, looking deep into your eyes, handsome smug on his face.
"Oh, I don't know Mr. Osborn, what's in it for me? you teased.
You could tell this back-and-forth was exciting to him, you'd be lying if you said it wasn't fun for you too. But you couldn't do that. What if tomorrow morning Peter was at your door with a bouquet of flowers ready to pour his heart out? You couldn't risk hurting him like that.
As Harry opened his mouth to hit you with probably the smoothest comeback you've ever heard. The music suddenly stopped and the tv flashed with breaking news.
"SPIDER-MAN SAVES PEOPLE FROM BURNING BUILDING"
Your eyes widened as you saw the screen, there he was, homely, cheesy, nerdy Pete. Suit ripped everywhere and visible bloody scratches across his back.
"I gotta go". Was all you managed to say as you grabbed your purse and searched for your phone on your way to the door.
A missed call from Peter. And a text.
You felt your heart drop, and to help your feelings, no taxi was stopping at your sign.
"Hey! Are you okay?" Harry shouted as he made his way towards you.
"Hey, sorry, a friend is um.. in that building. I have to get home in case he needs me- or needs anything." Worried look on your face.
"Shit, sorry, let me take you"-
"No, you don't have to, don't worry" you interrupted, still holding your hand out for any available cab.
"Come on, it's nothing, I'll have my driver get the car" He said already holding his phone up to his ear.
Thirty seconds later he was opening the door of his car to you.
The carride home was a blip. Before you noticed it he was pulling up in front of your building.
"I had fun tonight" he said, "I know it's bad timing but I'd love to see you again".
You smiled as he got out and walked around to the passenger side door.
"My number's on the card, text me when you need another ride" he teased, offering you a hand. "Or when you're in the mood for dinner."
You thanked him, then crossed to the building entrance. After fumbling with your keys for a second, you unlocked the front door and glanced back to wave goodbye before stepping inside.
The moment his taillights disappeared down the street, you took the stairs two at a time.
You unlocked your apartment door and hurried inside, only to find Peter already there.
"You left your window open," he said.
You stared at him in desbelief, analizing every inch of him, every cut, every bruise.
"Oh, Peter", you said, walking towards him and immediately placing your fingers under the fabric of his mask, carefully pulling it up. "Are you okay? I saw the news and got so worried" your voice shaky, "I saw the rips on your suit and the blood- I rushed home as fast as I could".
"I'm okay" he said. Gently pushing your hands away from his face. "Who is he?" he asked, his tone flat.
"Who?" Your your face scrunching in confusion.
"The guy that drove you home. The guy who's business card is apparently in your purse." He answered, visibly upset, grabbing your purse from your shoulder.
"You heard that?" you ask clearly baffled. "Yeah, spider senses, enhanced hearing, remember?" he replies pulling the card out and reading it.
"Harry Osborn? Really y/n? That guy's a dick" genuine disgust in his face.
"He's not a dick! and what do you care?"
"Wat do i care? we have ONE argument and you run off to someone else?"
"What are you talking about?"
"Come on y/n, you know what i'm talking about".
Your lips part, but no words come. You just stare at him.
"I'm talking about us. Don't pretend like you don't know there's something going on".
"We're friends Peter. Don't you remember? that's what you said last time".
"I know what I said, y/n, but I didn't mean it".
"Oh, so what, now you don't want to be friends anymore? What's up with you lately? You avoid me but when I do it suddenly I'm the bad guy?"
"NO, that's not- I don't want to be friends y/n. Don't you get it?"
His face softens, and he takes a few steps closer to you.
"I can't be your friend. I- I can't be near you for more than 10 seconds without feeling like I'm losing my mind"
"Peter, what are you saying?" your gaze locked on him waiting for an explanation.
You could see all his walls crumbling down as he hid his eyes from you.
"Scared of what?". The hard look in your eyes melting away.
"Scared you'll love me back..."
"Peter, I..." You breathed as you took a tentative step toward him.
"I know", he cut in, "but it's not that simple y/n". His eyes still avoiding yours.
"What isn't?" Unmistakable tenderness in your eyes.
"This. Me. Us. I'm dangerous y/n, I'm afraid you'll get hurt because of me or worst, you could d-" He went quiet.
You closed the distance between you, stopping just in front of him.
"Nothing's going to happen to me Pete" you said as your hand reached to cup his face. "You don't know that y/n". He looked at you with quiet affection, brushing a strand of hair away from your face.
"Neither of us know, but we can't live in fear all the time".
His hands found your waist and his forehead rested on yours.
"I don't want to lose you y/n". He whispered, his tone gentle.
"You won't". Your nose brushing his.
"You promise?" Emotion colored his voice.
And with that his lips finally met yours, in a slow, passionate kiss. He remembered the amount of times he pictured this exact moment, laying in bed alone, with the weight of the world sinking him down.
Your hands were now tangled in his messy curls, taking it all in, deepening the kiss.
After a while you pull apart to get some air.
"Can I ask you something?" Peter asks, breaking the silence.
"What were you doing with Harry Osborn?"
"The jealous Peter I've been waiting for."
Peter rolled his eyes. "I'm serious."
You smiled and brushed a thumb over his cheek. "I know."
You hesitated. "I almost went home with him tonight."
"Not because I wanted him." You squeezed his hand. "I kept thinking maybe that was what I was supposed to do. You kept pushing me away⊠and I finally convinced myself I had to stop hoping"
"I kept telling myself to move on. You made it pretty clear we were just friends."
"The whole night..." you continued, "I kept comparing him to you."
"That's not exactly a fair comparison." He said, his hands finding your waist once again.
"No." You smiled. "It wasn't."
"He was handsome. Charming. Rich." You shrugged. "And all I wanted was the awkward guy who climbs through my window."
Peter laughed quietly. The tension in his shoulders starting to disappear.
"So..." you said innocently. "For the record..."
"Harry did offer to take me home."
You could feel him getting riled up by the way his grip on your waist tightened.
"He even opened the car door for me."
Peter groaned, hiding his face in your shoulder.
"You're enjoying this way too much."
"...So, what did you say to him?" he blurted.
Your hands started caressing the nape of his neck as your eyes fixated on his.
"I said, 'no thanks, I got Spider-Man at home waiting to fuck my brains out' "
Peter's fingers brushed your jaw before slipping into your hair, holding you in place as he closed the distance between you. His mouth found yours in a kiss that was anything but careful. Hurried, clumsy, driven by weeks of everything left unsaid. A low, muffled sound escaped him when your mouth caught the cut on his lip, but instead of flinching, he only kissed you deeper, as if the sting hardly registered.
His touch wandered over the length of your back before settling lower, his hand finding your ass as he pulled you firmly against him. The movement drew your hips firmly against his. leaving barely any space between your bodies. A quiet, satisfied hum escaped him into the kiss, the low vibration lingering against your lips as though he couldn't get close enough.
This is my first Peter Parker fic! hopefully not the last.
Not brave enough to write smut but you can guess what ended up happening ;)
