“You know what, if it was I wouldn’t be mad about it.” Aspen replied. “It’s like the one thing I look forward too with these, my only complaint would be that they need to use the tax money for other snacks too.” She spoke before reaching into the bag to take out another marshmallow, “Maybe like, some doughnuts?” 

“That’s your first thought?” Charlotte asked, not being able to stop her laughter after catching the frisbee. “I promise I won’t intentionally aim for your face but… It has a mind of it’s own. I make no other promises.” 

Aurelie nodded, smiling at him. “Yes, yes, I did,” she replied. “You don’t need to mom me.”

“What else is there for me to do?” he teased back with a little chuckle escaping his lips.

Christian shook his head. “I’ve never actually played before.”

“Never?” he blinked. “Looks like my chances just spiked then.”

Max was jamming out by the fire until Logan came to sit over. His strumming grew gentle all of a sudden, “Hey I uh– I can totally stop playing if you wanted a chiller environment,” he told the other, not sure how he was feeling after the other night. “Or you can request a song? Whatever you want, bud.”

“You already put on sunscreen?” he asked, moving to lay out his towel before looking to his sister again. “Don’t make me go all mom on you.”

“You’re not secretly some ping pong nor beer pong champion right?” Max asked with a chuckle as they approached where people were playing. “Because I’m decent at either but if you’re a pro I’m not liking my chances so much.”

“I’m being honest!” Emma spoke, quick to defend herself. She hated to be called a killjoy and would do what she could to avoid it. “I really don’t think I remember the words to this song. You know we’re not kids anymore, right?” 

“Don’t tease me when I’m inebriated, I can’t differentiate between sarcasm and seriousness.” Logan told the other as he lay his head on the cool marble of the island counter. “I think I’m in one of those situations and it sucks.” He grumbled, lifting his head up. “I’m in love with someone who I think doesn’t want to be with me in that way, he runs so hot and cold that I never know where I stand. I’ve tried to stay away but he keeps drawing me back in and I-… fuck… I’m going to end up getting my heart broken.”  

“Sorry– sorry I shouldn’t be enjoying this,” Max raised his hands up in the air, another little laugh still escaping his lips. Making sure it was safe to turn away from the food for a moment, he looked to Logan sympathetically after he spoke, “That’s really rough man, I’m sorry.” If Max were being honest, he had been the kind to lead girls on in his youth and he looked back at all of it with regret. “I know this sounds like such an ‘easy way out’ answer on my behalf but... have you thought about talking to him about this?” he asked. “You can assume and psych yourself out until the cows come home but– you won’t get a straight answer unless you open up the conversation you know?”

“Do you ever think about how this might be where all our tax money goes? To buy marshmallows and graham crackers for town events?” he chuckled to the other before holding out the bag, “Want another?”

“I always thought it was pretty cool when dogs catch these in their mouths,” he admitted to the other as they threw the frisbee back and forth between one another. “But then I think about how if I did that I’d probably break all my teeth trying. So... I guess this is me saying please don’t aim for my face?”

“Oh, I never said that but…” She leaned in a little and made a hushed sound, putting her finger to her lips as if she was telling a big secret. “Don’t tell anyone I said this but… you’re my favourite.” She playfully tossed him a wink. “Noah would be such a grump if he knew that.” Truth was, Sam was fairly sure Noah wouldn’t care given the man knew he had a special place in her heart. 

Max gasped playfully. “I won’t tell a soul,” he replied, making a zipping motion over his lips. “Would he? Well I certainly wouldn’t want him to come after me for it so– all the more reason for me to keep that a secret.” After a moment he leaned forward too, “You’re my favorite too. But... don’t let Tanner find out.”

“I’m drunk-” Logan stated, waving a hand over his face, “Surely that’s a big enough sign that things are going to be different.” He continued, he was hardly ever drunk, in fact he couldn’t even remember the last time he had been drunk. Normally he was the responsible, one or two drinks and then he was done for the night, this was out of the ordinary for him and he didn’t like it. “Sounds good.” He smiled, following to the other to the kitchen and taking a seat at the island as he watched the other start to cook. “Have you ever been stuck in an unrequited love situation?”

“I’m teasing bud– just teasing,” he chuckled with a little shake of his head before they finally made it to the kitchen. Max began pulling things out of the fridge to make a classic fry up for the other, always finding any excuse to bring out the British traditions. “Yeah. Both sides in different situations,” he admitted. “Neither side was much fun to be on. Why do you ask?”

Emma started the walk to her car, normally she was a fast walker but she slowed herself down for Max attempting to keep in line with him. Soon enough they had made it to her car, dog still sitting comfortably in Max’s arms. Emma unlocked the car and opened the passenger door rearranging things in her backseat to protect the fabric, “Okay, you can set her down here- don’t let her touch anything, yeah?” 

Logan was drunk. It didn’t happen very often, but it had been a tough week and he had just needed something to help him wind down, he didn’t intend to stay out so late and he sure as hell didn’t intend to drink so much. Maybe this is why he was stood outside his roommates door, head resting against the wood as he knocked slowly, yet continuously until the other was willing to answer him. “I don’t care how late it is. I’m having emotional turmoil issues and I need to talk before I sober up completely.”

It took Max a moment to get out of bed and open the door, but once he did he looked at Logan groggily. “I’m a little weary opening this door to you because I have a strange feeling you’ve been body-snatched. The Logan I know would never want to talk about his feelings with me,” he couldn’t help but tease the other. Max took a moment to laugh at his own little joke before sighed, “Alright– let’s make you some greasy food and you can talk at me all you like. Sound good?”
