in the end if you live in the imperial core rn society widely, strongly encourages you to eat meat and consume dairy on a daily basis. in france rn the meat and dairy industry have pettily pressured to make plant-based substitutes change their names and less accessible, many places barely serve a couple of vegetarian dishes (rarely vegan), they're adding beef tallow in everything again, all across the political spectrum people in power are bashing the mean environmentalists and vegans who are apparently single handedly destroying french culture, meat and dairy farmers and industry leads are fighting for their right to sell sick animals and to destroy their local water supply for cattle. vegans are a tiny portion of the population, they are often socially excluded and badmouthed, and they are not the ones responsible for the spread of pleather or synthetic cloth and it is unbelievably stupid to say they are, or even to pretend that leather is environmentally friendly in any way tbh when tanneries produce unbelievable levels of polluants that usuallly contaminate groundwater. you can try to claim vegans are single handedly responsible for microplastics or pretend that eating meat and dairy on the regular is actually #antiracist and that vegans are all racists apparently, make up all these lies but the reality is you are very much just being defensive about your own environmental impact. idk im not vegan or vegetarian, i eat meat regularly and probably should eat less of it, but i dont turn into a whiner when someone just announces they're vegan. and i think it's a very bad sign when you get this defensive and this willing to spout lies to make you feel better about yourself over something so petty; how are we ever gonna address other issues that we benefit from if people start shaking and screaming angrily at the mere suggestion that what we eat has an impact?

i also think it's genuinely quite evil as a white person to talk about indigenous people as a monolith to argue against vegans and pretend vegans are single handedly a threat to them (and nothing else???) while cattle farmers past and present murder indigenous people and destroy their lands for beef.
