At some point in your life, you just get tired of explaining. Explaining who you are, where you come from, why you do the things you do. You’re exhausted from constantly starting at zero and explaining everything just so you’re not some foreign alien to people. You grow tired of having to prove you’re a human like they are. And you start longing for people who understand you, who can take one look at you and say, “Aha, I understand.” We all have a need to belong, and when we are taken out of where we belong, life becomes confusing, hard, and exhausting, when all you need is a familiar face that can reassure you that it’s okay to rest now, there’s nothing to explain, I understand.

its offensive that books like the bell jar arent required reading in high school. we get bombarded with trash like the great gatsby or catcher in the rye, its like a guided tour through the Male Psyche (limply masquerading as not male but just human). its so upsetting really. literature is this incredible vehicle for exploring other minds, and yet all teenage girls get are these flaccid, irrelevant insights into what Men think. i dont care what men think. i dont care about the grandiose aspirations of men which is really what all those dumb fucking books boil down to. meanwhile, i just finished rereading the bell jar and it resonates in my core. wouldnt it be nice if women’s inner worlds/ the machinations of women’s minds were something prioritized in school or in the world. WOULDNT IT BE NICE
