Quite a bit, I’m afraid. Or, at least there are a number of faces I deem not to be familiar.

“Hey, as her mother, I would rather her call you pretty than sexy. Besides, what’s wrong with being pretty? She calls me pretty all the time.” She grabbed her own beer from the counter-top and took a swig from it. “You would think that, but with all the candy and cake and basically just sugar she’s been eating all day, it’s going to take a while for me to get her down tonight. I’m still hopeful though.” She giggled and smirked a bit when Savannah ran through the kitchen, stopping at the door to the backyard and taking a double take. When she saw Matt, she ran over and hugged his leg. “Hi boyfriend! It’s my birthday!” Ellena laughed slightly and took another swig from her beer.

“I wasn’t planning on teaching her that,” Matt said with a shake of his head. “But, you know, handsome is game,” he mentioned with a shrug of his broad shoulders. “And, some might even say charming,” the man stated while running a hand through his hair, adding it as a playful remark. “This is why being an uncle is so much easier. You see them at their best, and if they start misbehaving, you hand them back to their parents. Matt saw the little one running towards him and as she held onto his leg he bent down to pick her up. “Oh, I know that. It’s the reason why I came.” he told her with a smile. “I just… I didn’t get you a present, can you forgive me?” he questioned the little girl.

“I’m sure she won’t hold it against you. You are her ‘pretty boyfriend’ anyway.” Ella teased and giggled, leading him into the kitchen and opening the fridge to grab a beer for him. She handed it over and glanced around for a moment. “Birthday girl is around here somewhere. Probably running around with her friends. Some familiar faces will be here. Some people from work as well as my family, obviously and some of my friends. Why? Is there someone you’re trying to avoid?”

“I think it’s time to teach her some other adjectives... Pretty does not fit me all that well,” he shook his head at the statement, though there was humor to it. He followed her around to the kitchen and took the bottle of beer she was offering him, opening it up and taking a sip from it. “Well, I’m not someone to interrupt something like that,” he shook his head at it. “Besides, I suppose the fact that she’s wasting some of that energy should be good for you on the long run, isn’t it? Nah, just curious to see who I might be expecting to see, really.”

Ellena was more than happy to see that Matt was back. She knew he had gone somewhere, but she didn’t know where or why. She hadn’t even heard he was back, but that was mainly because she was swamped with work and Savannah and her birthday. “It’s nice to see you’re back in town. Come in, come in.” She stepped to the side, letting him in and closing the door behind him. “No birthday present huh? You know, I wouldn’t be too torn up about it, but it’s not my birthday. You’ll have to take that up with birthday girl.” She teased. “Do you want a drink? Aside from juice boxes, we have soda and beer.”

“It’s nice to be back,” Matt agreed with the woman in front of him, stepping inside her home. “Yeah, I must say I didn’t quite have the time to stop by and get her something, so, I’ll probably make up for it later,” the man spoke with a shrug of his broad shoulders. “But, yeah, I’m gonna talk to her about it and hope she finds compassion in her little heart to, you know, let it slide.” he mentioned with a bit of a smile. “I’ll take a beer. Where’s the birthday girl? And, who might I be expecting to see around here? You know, at the party?” he asked while glancing around the place and seeing all the children going around.

Matt offered her a smile as she opened the door. He had been out of town for a bit and just returned to hearing it was her daughter’s birthday. He was not the kind to be particularly bothered by the fact the brunette probably didn’t even know he was back yet. “Hey there,” he said with a smile. “I heard there was a celebration going on around here and, it felt like I just had to come over. I wish I could say I come bearing gifts, but, I honestly don’t,” he showed her his palms. “Would that be a problem?”
