Genuinely baffles me that tumblr claims to be so leftist but at the same time is SO anti vegan.
Every leftist space I've been at IRL has either offered only vegan food or at least one or more vegan options because
1) it's more inclusive - vegetarians and non-vegans can eat it, too (excluding allergies etc. of course)
2) it's cheaper
3) it's FAR more environmentally friendly
Like??? You people want freedom for all, but not animals? You people want to abolish prisons, but not (factory) farming? You people yell "my body my choice", but that doesn't extend to animals? You love cats and dogs and frogs and lizards, bur eat cows and pigs and chickens?
It's hypocritical and it doesn't make sense
For anyone wanting to live a healthy, more ethical and sustainable life in 2025, I would recommend that you consider veganism. I made the switch in January 13 years ago, and can honestly say it is one of the most unequivocally positive decisions I have ever made. It could be for you, too.
Going vegan and advocating for the rights of animals is an act of protest against a corporate system that treats sentient beings as mere objects, commodities to be bought and sold as property. Animal agriculture industries breed animals into unhealthy bodies, exploit them for profit then slaughter them at a tiny fraction of their life expectancy. Most animals are killed when they’re little more than infants.
Adopting a based-based diet is the single biggest dietary change you can make to reduce your carbon footprint by up to 73%. Eating plant-based requires less land, less water, fewer crops and can be up to 1/3 cheaper. There is a broad scientific consensus that plant-based diets can be perfectly healthy, with organisations like the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and the NHS in agreement. Those who still think that vegans cannot be healthy in 2025 are denying decades of nutritional research, and must find it hard to explain how committed vegan athletes are competing at the highest levels of sport.
There are significant barriers that prevent some people from adopting a 100% plant-based diet, whether that is because of health issues, a difficult living situation or limited food availability. But veganism is about avoiding animal exploitation as far as is possible and practicable. It’s about doing your best, whatever that looks like. Just honestly ask yourself; if you can be healthy while living a more humane, more sustainable lifestyle, why not give it a try?
a bad dream?
The first one is my favorite piece of art ever created and its taken me half a decade to find it

Male calves killed
Dairy cows sent to slaughter once spent
Roughly three times more GHG emissions

I didn't know predstrogen or her blog but that doesn't matter to me and it shouldn't matter to you. if they came for her they will come for you. if you're not trans they will come for you when they're done with them.
hate doesn't start and end with one target, it morphs and amalgamates until no one is safe, and it lashes out a lot.
Also worth noting it had started with black bloggers alongside transgender bloggers. And even Palestinian bloggers in the face of the current genocide.
The real number of people who've been scorched Earth I can't even begin to comprehend as we usually only hear about it when its popular bloggers like Trans Mom or Predstrogen. The fact that even they were treated with such absolute cruelty means there had to have been so many more that went without any public outcry or knowing.
HI IM JAMMERJENNY THE BLOG ABOVE AND YOU WOULD NOT BELIEVE WHAT TUMBLR STAFF JUST DID TO ME

I wonder how many people realize that we wouldn't have most of the genres of electronic music we have today without black people, and what it says about that when you consider how much various electronic musical disciplines are more often associated with white people.
If it weren't for funk, jazz, soul, disco, dub, dancehall, and more, we wouldn't have house, techno, drum and bass, UK garage, even most forms of industrial dance music.
If you've ever enjoyed a song by Machine Girl you are morally obligated to listen to the entirety of Maggot Brain by Funkadelic
op you're right but also
I've been getting a lot of responses like this and at this point I find it kind of annoying and borderline infantalizing? Like yes, black music was stolen and commodified countless times over and is the bedrock of almost all modern genres of music. I'm a black musician. I'm intimately aware of this.
The reason I focused on electronic music specifically is because no one ever talks about it. The theft of rock n' roll is softened by celebrated legends such as Jimi Hendrix and Slash and Little Richard, and the visibility of the story in general. Hip-hop's story of capitalist exploitation of poor black men and enforcement of toxic standards of masculinity and white appropriation is softened by hip-hop made by black people being a culturally dominating force for the last 30+ years, and a concentrated effort by black artists to use the genre to platform black artists and issues first. Ska getting gentrified into ska punk is softened by ska punk sucking ass in comparison. Electronic music does not get the same redemption story.
Quick, without using Google, can you name a black electronic music artist? Do you know who Juan Atkins is? Phuture? Mr Fingers? When you think of acid, do you think of black people in the clubs of Chicago or white english people at raves in London? When you think of jungle, do you think about the African and Carribean diaspora in the United Kingdom drawing on dub and dancehall tradition to make some of the most futuristic sounding music in history, or do you think of white people recycling the same beats over and over again set to PS1-style cover art?
House music, the closest living relative to disco, which was a black genre of music MURDERED by reactionary white rock music fans, is more associated with two fucking white dudes from France than ANY black person in the minds of most people.
Do you know the name of the man who played the Amen break?
I'm not mad at you in particular, I'm just frustrated. The totality of black suffering can be overwhelming, yes, but it shouldn't sweep over the specifics when black people want to focus on them. Let me be pissed off about Daft Punk making more money than Frankie Knuckles ever did, please.
Actually y'know what? I'm using this opportunity to plug my shit. Listen to this song, I'm still really proud of it.

In honor of another “vegan leather is plastic” post going around, here’s your reminder that:
1. Both are bad for the environment. Leather isn’t better just because it comes from a renewable source. Cows emit methane, take up valuable land, and the tanning process emits harmful chemicals into ecosystems.
2. Vegan leather wasn’t designed for vegans. It’s designed for people who can’t afford real leather and don’t want to smell like shit when it rains. It’s just given a bougie name for marketing purposes.
3. Literally most synthetic fabrics are plastic, but some of y’all fixate on pleather but have no problem with polyester being used instead of cotton for whatever reason.
4. Leather is not a by product of meat production. Cattle are raised specifically for leather and go through an enormous amount of suffering in the leather industry.
5. Stop believing everything you see on tumblr without fact checking.
6. most leather is chromium tanned and neither biodegradable nor recyclable
