Who influence you to become a Mathematician?
I'd have to say my biggest inspirations were all math teachers.
It started with Mrs. Landucci in high school. I had her for Algebra 1 Honors and Intro to Analysis Honors (basically pre-calc). The way she conducted her classes and the way she approached the material in a very clear-cut and logical progression was appealing to me. Those classes made me want to teach high school math.
Then, I went to junior college where I had Dr. Barker for Calculus 2, Vector Calculus, and Intro to Differential Equations. His classroom was extremely similar to that of Mrs. Landucci, and that's when I first started to consider teaching in college. I already knew that I wanted to teach the more advanced subjects, but I wasn't sure if I would be prepared to pursue the advanced degree that college teaching would require.
I transferred to a 4-year university to finish up my Bachelor's degree. There I met Dr. Clarke, whom I would have to say is my biggest inspiration overall. She was my adviser for both years and I had her for my favorite subject, Abstract Algebra. Her teaching style echoed that of Mrs. Landucci and Dr. Barker. A couple months into her Abstract Algebra class, I knew that I wanted to teach in college and started orienting myself towards graduate school.
If I can become half as good a teacher as Dr. Clarke, I will consider myself a very successful professor!

When I graduated from high school, it was calculus. The methods for handling concepts like limits, derivatives, and integrals just seemed so elegant and made a lot of sense. When I got to college, though, I fell in love with abstract algebra. Abstract algebra looks at different number types and operations with similar properties and tries to make generalizations about anything with those properties. One sort of result you would see in an abstract algebra course is that given a certain number, for example the number 2, then the additive inverse (the “opposite” or “negative” of that number) is always unique. The same is true for multiplicative inverses (“reciprocals”). The field gets WAY more involved than that, but that’s the core of it. We have different names for different structures (groups, rings, fields, vector spaces) and we study what properties each type of structure shares.

Certainly! The graph is showing how many students got each type of grade. Since all possible grades are shown, we can assume that all of the students in the class are represented in that graph. From reading the graph:
A - 6
B - 4
C - 12
D - 5
F - 1
Since these are all the kids in the class, add them up!
6 + 4 + 12 + 5 +1 = 10 + 12 + 6 = 28
The answer is C.

What is the solution of x^(2) + 4x > 0 where x is a real number?
About Calculus, would you happen to know how one would go about finding the integral of sqrt((x-2)(x+1))dx?
That integral is very long and messy. Are you sure you have it written correctly? The way I'm seeing it is like this:

I'm really really horrifyingly bad at algebra and I need to find six equations given points for three different types of graphs, Exponential, Logarithmic and a square root function, and this paper is due tomorrow and , if you could help me solve these problems and maybe explain them because I am looking at these points going, 'say what?' i just. please help!! And if you could explain how to do them as if explaining to a 3 year old it would be appreciated, and I understand if you don't have time to do this, but man. would it be awesome if you did. but here goes nothing.
For the Exponential functions i have points (4,7) and (11/2, 8) and then the second function is (8,7) and (10, 8)
For the Logarithmic functions i have (7,2) and (8,3) and the second equation is (6, 2) and (7, 1)
For the Square root functions I have (10, -10) and (14, -9) and the second equations points are (3, -10) and (5, -9)

These are kinda long so I did the first one in each of the logarithmic and exponential areas. As for the square root functions, I'm not sure what the generic form they want you to use is. Like, for the logarithmic function, the generic form is y = a + b * ln(x). If you can give me the generic form they want you to use, I can help more. Hope this helps!
