Religion is a form of control. It can be yielded with the best intentions or the worst. It can be a moral guideline or an avenue for oppression. Religion is what you make of it. It is necessary for some. It can give meaning, worth, and a sense of belonging to people. For others It can be used to persecute and control.

We are never completely in control of our emotions. We do what we can to guide, mold, and hide them, but our experience and instinct lead us to involuntarily feel one way or another. For better or worse.

Love requires a nurturing destination, without that, it is only desire.
