He lays there quietly as the night’s rain pour down around him in a universal waterfall. I am out of time, he thinks to himself as he crouchs and moves up to the low mound of earth he had been hiding behind for what seems to be a lifetime. He brings up his scope looking through the window as everything leaps forward to a crystal clear vision. The soldiers in the building were having a party. A toast to driving the enemy out of town as they see it. Thier black uniforms stood out even against the night as though if thier clothes were blacker than black as they seem to devour the light in the house. He watches from the dirt and mud knowing he will never get another shot like this. He sees the silver eagle and emblems of a general who is farther on the front line than he should be. He breathes deep as he hears the rain continue to roar as thuder explodes like the cannon on a battleship as lightning dances across the sky. He slowly squeezes the trigger as another round of thunder sound off covering the sound of the rifle clap. Red mist sprays against the wall as the general topples backwards never knowing what hit him. The troops could only stare in shock disbelief as they dove for cover but nothing followed the first shot. As the troops poured from the building they look everywhere to find the sniper. They only found one thing left behind as it has ever been. A single rifle shell sitting in the dirt with its bottom half buried in mud.
